Summary

Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.

Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans...

Excerpt

Emily sat on a fallen log and leaned back. When she was little, she’d loved to try to star watch. In LA, this was tricky because of all the city lights, not to mention smog. Doing it here, in the land of the big sky, was a whole new ball game. “I’m not lonely,” she said to the horse, who snorted again and swished his tail.

“Good. Cuz you’re not alone.”
Two long legs came into her peripheral. Wyatt crouched at her side and looked into her face.  “How are you?”

“Fine,” she said.

Nodding, he sat on the log at her side and leaned back, presumably to look at whatever she was looking at. “Pretty night.”

His hands were behind him, his shoulder and a part of his chest brushing her arm and shoulder. Actually it was more like he was encircling her within his arm span, which was considerable. It was a guy move, an alpha guy move, and it made her feel ... protected.

She was getting far too used to that, she thought with a sigh. “Where is everyone?”

“Gone,” he said, and there was an odd quality to his voice that had her taking a second look at him. He didn’t take his gaze off the sky so she got him in profile, the tousled hair, the fine lines crinkling the corners of his eyes from long days out in the sun, the square, scruffy jaw. A broad shoulder built to take on the weight of the world.

He’d been working his ass off, here at Belle Haven, helping Dell take up the slack for the out-of-town Jade, and then going home and helping his sisters with the monstrous house they were fixing up. He did so much for everyone, and she found herself wanting to do something for him. Make him smile. Make him relax. Make him forget, even for a few minutes…  She nudged him with her shoulder.

He nudged her back and turned to look at her then, his eyes dark and unfathomable behind his glasses.

Chickening out, she turned her head this time, and stared up at the sky as he had been only a few seconds before.

“Emily.”

When she didn’t tear her gaze off the stars, he leaned in and nipped her ear.

Sucking in a breath, she looked at him again. His was still dark, but there were things swirling in those dark depths now. Need. Heat.

Affection.

He stole her breath.

“Let the record state,” she said, reaching out to snatch off his glasses, “that I don’t always make the first move.”

He blinked in momentary confusion, and probably also because he could no longer see. He opened his mouth to say something, but she sank her fingers into his hair and kissed him, hard and long and deep.

“Emily,” he said when they broke for air, his voice rough and husky.

She climbed into his lap and then pushed him backwards off the log so that he fell to his back in the wild grass with her straddling him.

Laughing, he slid his hands beneath her top and up her back, drawing out a delicious shiver from her.  Then his hands slid slowly down her spine, and into the backs of her jeans.  “Let the record also state,” he said in a delicious growl. “Who made the rest of the moves.”

One Night in Paris by Lucy Felthouse (spotlight) (ADULT title)

City Nights: One Night in Paris
by Lucy Felthouse (@cw1985) is an ADULT title

Blurb:

Jacob is nearly forty, and has recently come to the sudden realisation that he’s not doing much with his life. Sure, he’s got his own successful business, but what’s the point in earning lots of money and not doing anything or going anywhere to spend it?
He’s in serious danger of being all work and no play, so he starts to rectify this by organising a twenty four hour layover in Paris en route to a meeting in Dubai. Whilst there, he goes on a bus tour of the city, and there meets Annabelle, a fellow Brit who’s studying in Paris. There’s clearly an attraction between the two of them, so when the gorgeous Annabelle makes an indecent proposal to help Jacob fill his time in Paris, who is he to refuse?

Excerpt:

Jacob huffed out a breath as he reached the kerb, shooting a dirty look at the motorist who’d caused him to leap for the relative safety of the pavement. Christ, he’d heard talk of Parisian drivers, but until he’d experienced the place for himself, he’d thought the claims were exaggerated. Apparently not.

Running a hand through his hair, he tried to regain some modicum of composure. It was not the best start to his day—all he’d done was catch the Metro to the Eiffel Tower so far, and he’d barely caught sight of the iconic monument before an insane motorist had almost run him down.

Checking his pockets to make sure nothing was amiss, he retrieved his pre-booked ticket for one of the hop-on, hop-off bus tours of the city while he was there. Horribly touristy, he knew, but given he’d never visited the French capital before, he felt it was excusable. Hell, he’d even booked a plane ticket with a nice twenty-four-hour layover so he could sneak in some sightseeing. It was going to be non-stop work when he got to Abu Dhabi, so he felt he was entitled to a little chill-out time before he got there.

He was the boss, anyway, so nobody could tell him what to do, where to go, or when. If he wanted to head for a brief jolly in Paris before a bunch of intense meetings with his Arabic clients, then he damn well would. What was the point in working his arse off constantly if he couldn’t reap the benefits? His fortieth birthday was approaching and the realisation had made him think. Almost forty and he hadn’t seen nearly enough of the world. Especially if you discounted hotels and conference rooms. Once, he’d flown to Rome, had a meeting in a hotel near the airport, then turned around and boarded a flight home. It had been worth it financially, but only months later, it hit Jacob what a colossally wasted opportunity it had been. Yes, the client had insisted on a face-to-face meeting, rather than a Skype chat, and yes, he’d needed to get back home to continue with yet more work, but it could have waited a day or two. Even a couple of days in the Italian capital would have been better than nothing.

What was the point in having plenty of money if one couldn’t enjoy it, after all?

With a decisive nod, Jacob checked his ticket for the location of the bus stop. He’d just headed for the Eiffel Tower in the first instance because he’d figured it would be the easiest thing in Paris to find. He’d been right in assuming that; the mighty iron structure pierced the sky, impressive and strangely beautiful. It was next on his list, after the bus tour, which he felt would help him get his bearings. He only had twenty four hours—there was no time to waste getting lost.

He quickly located the bus stop he’d been looking for, helped by the vehicle that had just arrived, emblazoned with the tour company logo. There was already a group waiting, and he hurried over to join the back of the queue. After a couple of minutes, it was his turn to have his ticket checked, then he was ushered onto the bus.

It seemed the majority of people who’d alighted in front of him had snagged seats on the bottom deck. It was far from full but somehow already felt crowded, so Jacob headed up the stairs, the child in him making a bee-line for the back seat.

He’d taken a couple of long strides when he saw someone already sitting there. A blonde, maybe a decade younger than him, and gorgeous. Their gazes met and they exchanged a polite smile before breaking eye contact.

Broslin Bride by Dana Marton (spotlight, excerpt, review and GIVEAWAY)

Broslin Bride (Gone and Done it)

From Amazon:

The worst time to be charged with murder is:

A, When you have no alibi for the night in question.

B, When you have no memory of the night in question.

C, When you told people you hated the victim.

D, When the detective is the 1st guy you ever slept with--which didn't end well.

Check all of the above for Luanne Mayfair. If it wasn't for bad luck, she wouldn't have any luck at all. Okay, maybe a little luck. As it turns out, Detective Chase Merritt doesn't hold grudges.

He still looks at Luanne just as he did in high school, except he's grown some serious 'hot cop' muscles--very distracting when Luanne is trying to avoid the very law Chase represents.

Is she the killer? Is she being framed? Is she the next victim? As Chase and Luanne race to find some answers, danger and heat ratchet up in this fast-paced romantic mystery that will stop your heart one second, then steal it in the next.

Broslin Bride Excerpt:

Luanne Mayfair might have killed her boss a little. Fine, a lot. Pretty much all the way. God, that sounded bad. But he was a sleazebag. Honest. The maids at the Mushroom Mile Motel that Earl Cosgrove managed often prayed for lightning to strike the lecherous bastard. Alas, God had seen fit to send Luanne instead.

Now you’ve gone and done it, she thought the morning after as she stood on the sidewalk in front of the fifties ranch home she rented in her hometown of Broslin, PA. She squinted against the early summer sun. Her red 1989 Mustang sitting by the curb had come from the used-car lot with its share of nicks and dents. But the damage to the front was new.

Gone and done it.

She’d done a horrible, terrible, despicable thing. Guilt and regret made her knees wobble. Whatever the punishment was, she deserved it.

Except, she couldn’t go to prison. She had her four-year-old twin sisters to take care of. She was Mia and Daisy’s sole guardian.

Luanne drew air in big, gulping breaths to wrestle down the shock and nausea. Get moving. One foot in front of the other. She couldn’t stand there and stare all morning. She had to find a way to get away with murder.

My review:

4.5 out of 5 stars

Broslin Bride (Gone and Done it) by Dana Marton is an exciting addition to the ‘Broslin Creek’ series and features Luanne Mayfair, determined guardian of her four-year-old twin sisters.  Trapped in a job with a slimy supervisor, Luanne’s fantasy of ridding herself of his presence becomes a nightmare that forces her to make unwise choices and puts her back into unwilling contact with a former lover, Detective Chase Merritt.  Torn between his duties and his attraction to the woman who once trashed his reputation, Chase must decide what the truth is and what he is willing to risk to obtain it.

This was a wonderful addition to an enjoyable romantic suspense series.  It is always impressive when an author is able to write each tale as a stand-alone story yet keep the continuity that connects the series and allows the reader to get glimpses of characters from other stories.  I always enjoy re-visiting Broslin Creek and found the twists and turns in this tale to be very entertaining although I cringed slightly at the history between the main characters.  Luanne’s young siblings are adorable and it was easy to fall in love with them and I love reading about the protective males that populate Broslin Creek.  This was a fun read and I anxiously await more stories of romance and danger from the very entertaining Ms. Marton!

Resolutions by Terri Riggs (guest post, excerpt and GIVEAWAY) GFT

I have the honor of having a guest post by author Teri Riggs...who is sharing a glimpse of herself.

Ten Things Most People Don’t Know About Teri

I’m a pretty shy person until I get to know someone. Most people think I’m far from being a wallflower since I write romance. I still blush when I write love scenes or when I tell someone I write romance.

I didn’t read books until about six years before I started writing. I only read books required for classes or if something really sounded good. Now I read all the time. I’m a bookaholic and should be in a 12 step program of some sort. Do they have a Bookaholic’s Anonymous?

I read at least a book a day, sometimes more. My all-time record is four books in one day.

I’m an insomniac. This is why I can read at least one book a day, still write, and perform most of the other normal human functions required to maintain a life and be part of a family.

I married my high school sweetheart. We began dating when we were 15…practically babies! We’ve been married for ummm…let’s just say several years now and hubby still makes me feel like a new bride most of the time. I learned so much about romance from hubby.

I have two dogs who think they’re the boss of me. Of course they are, but still…

I occasionally peek at the endings of books. Okay, I lied. I peek at the endings a lot of times to see if my ending is the right one. I’m a very impatient reader. People who find out I do this are usually horrified. They want to know how I can peek. I tell them it’s easy. I open the book and flip to the last pages. Now that I mostly read on my Kindle and iPhone, it’s a bit more difficult to sneak a peek. But I manage!

I am a strong supporter of Brenda Novak’s Auction for Juvenile Diabetes she holds every May. I’ve been the high bidder on many critiques, publicity packages, and ads over the years. Both of my books have been contracted as a result of winning editor critiques from the publishers who were kind enough to donate them. I have a brother with diabetes who goes to dialysis three times a week. I know what an awful disease it is and would love to see a cure in my lifetime. This year will Brenda’s tenth year of presenting the auction.

I hate talking about myself.

I’m talking about myself here only because it was requested.

(and we appreciate you doing so, Terri...and I don't think there's a need for a Bookaholics Anonymous...I see nothing wrong with my addiction, lol--ELF)

BLURB:

DEA agent Eve Taylor has had her fill of alpha males. When Resolutions’ operative and former lover, Dillon “Mac” McKenna, threatened her hard-earned independence, she ran. On a mission to gather evidence against a Colombian drug-lord, Eve discovers the drug-lord is helping terrorists plan an attack on American soil. Before she can escape with the vital information, she’s captured and comes face to face with her mortality…

As a teen, Mac watched his family fall apart after his mother died doing dangerous U.N. work. The possibility of losing Eve to a mission ignited an overwhelming need to protect her. When he forced her to choose him or her job, she walked away. Two years later, it seems all his nightmares have come true and he’s tasked with rescuing her from a Colombian prison. Mac has never stopped loving Eve, but does he dare risk his heart when he’s so terrified of losing…

On the run, Mac and Eve must learn to trust each other again in order to stay alive.

Excerpt:

“Dammit, Eve, I didn’t mean I needed to take care of you, I just meant—”

“I know exactly what you meant.” She added a sheathed K-bar knife to her belt, grabbed one of the assault rifles Cade had brought along, and tossed the strap over her good shoulder. “Let’s finish this. The quicker this mission is completed, the sooner our partnership is finished. It’s too hard to be around you.”

“Wait, Eve. Listen, I’m sorry if I offended you. I know you can keep up.”

“You want to smother me. I can’t handle the alpha shit anymore. I can’t change what happened to your mother, and I damned well can’t live my life trying to make up for her death. Let’s be honest, we just aren’t meant to be together.”

Mac grabbed her good arm. “Eve, don’t write me off yet. We can work through this. We’ll talk later.”

“Not gonna happen.” She pulled away.

Eve hopped from the AH-6J and stood with both feet apart in front of Cade and Corelli. “You two don’t have to worry about me not pulling my weight. I’m good to go.”

She spun around and stomped off toward Mendoza’s compound.

“Shit, Mac, I think you’ve gone and pissed your lady off big-time. Gonna make this job all kinds of fun.” Cade smiled sheepishly.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Teri Riggs was destined to be a writer.  As a small girl she didn’t read bedtime stories, she made up her own.  Who needed Little Red Riding Hood or The Three Little Pigs when there were so many great tales bouncing around in her head?  When she grew up and became a mother to three little girls, she continued the tradition of making up bedtime stories.  On the occasions she chose to tell conventional fairytales, Teri usually gave them a bit of tweaking here and there or added a new ending.  Her girls loved it.

After her daughters had the nerve to actually grow up and leave home, Teri discovered she had a passion for writing and jumped right in.  It came as no surprise she chose to write mysteries and happily-ever-after’s since that’s the genres she loves to read.
Teri lives in Marietta, Georgia with her husband, one of her daughters and two dogs that seem to think they rule the world.  And some days Teri thinks maybe they do.

Teri still frequently tells herself stories as she falls asleep.  The only difference now is she wakes up the next morning and turns her bedtime stories into books.

Enjoy an excerpt:

Bright and early Saturday morning, Theresa Sanchez opened her front door to discover Zachary Hunter clad in a bright orange dress on her porch. The loose bodice fell low on his chest, displaying dark blond curls and showcasing his broad shoulders and powerful torso. The neon hemline stopped above the knees, revealing muscular calves, strong ankles, and shapely feet.

It was unusual attire for a dominant male werewolf.

She stepped closer and sniffed, seeking to satisfy the impulses of her she-wolf. The earthy scent of him flooded her nostrils—masculine and potent—inciting the heated ache of arousal between her thighs. She licked her lips, hoping that drool hadn’t dribbled down her chin. The man made her mouth water.

“My eyes are up here, love,” Zach quipped in a crisp British accent. His hand lifted and a long, elegant finger tapped her chin.

“Oh, right. Sorry.” She forced her roaming eyes upward, away from his buff chest, striving to remember that she and Zach didn’t play like that. The man was many things to her: best friend, confidant, and protector. He fixed leaky faucets and kept her ancient car running. But of all the roles he played, he remained “lover” only in her dreams.
