Fun at the San Diego Zoo

I have to admit, I have been away from the keyboard for a few days (and I was hoping my inflamed tendons would improve...but I guess I still manage to use my hands way too much during the course of a day!) and wandering around the beautiful city of San Diego. It's been a few (too) many years since we have been down to visit, and we were wondering when the perfect time to go would be, because I've gotten to the point where I am not crazy about the crowds.

It's good to be king!

I am a bit of a nut about animals, so I tend to visit the zoo in whatever city I am visiting...

See, all gone. More, please!

I was amazed by the changes that have been made to keep the animals entertained yet make them accessible so the folks visiting can see them. Although I am sad when I see them pacing and visibly unhappy, I am really pleased to see the strenuous efforts that have been made to provide an enriched environment for all of the zoo denizens.

And...in case you can't tell, I am particularly fond of the large felids, but of course there are plenty of other amazing animals to admire.

The overall message is the importance of conservation...and stewardship of our land.

I discovered that it is important to make sure the palm oil in the foods we eat is produced in a responsible manner, since rainforests are being destroyed to produce palm oil...which wipes out the habitat for the natural fauna (and flora) such as the endangered Sumatran tiger.

You can learn more about the tigers at the San Diego Zoo at this link

For more about the San Diego zoo in general, please visit this link...and remember, they have several camera feeds of various inhabitants.

Do you go to zoos or animal parks? Which one(s) is(are) your favorite?

  1. Oh wow, I haven't been to the San Diego Zoo since I was a kid. We don't have a zoo here but I loved going to them when I was a kid.
