BLURB:

Strap on your seatbelt for this whirlwind of short stories that take you out of this world—literally!

-A goddess on a mission or a young adult growing up? In the paranormal world, who's to know?

-Covert Action is supposed to mean "secret" but in a world of regulation, just what is everyone going so far out of their way to hide? Sex is a dangerous game. More than anyone could have bet.

-What if life was as simple as a game of dice or poker? What if human's lived their lives unaware that they were pawns, played on a board by those who were just a little more than human? Would fate intervene? Would love mean anything? If you were a God among humans, wouldn't you be just maybe, slightly, bored?

Life ending games? Or are they just the beginning? Dangerous. Risqué. A catch. There's always a catch. Three tales that will blow your mind.

My review:

3.75 stars

Anger's Children by K.D. Rose is a collection of three short stories, “Under the Shadow of Wings”, “Eyes Only”, and “The Dark Man”.  The first is a little disconcerting to me with its fluid treatment of time and changes in point of view, but it is an interesting twist on explaining why joining the mile high club can be fraught with danger.  The second provides a thought-provoking look at the challenges facing those who serve their country and the price and sacrifices that the service required.  There are interesting twists that tie the story together and I enjoyed the ending.  The last story has more of a paranormal flavor but bends space and time and gives a different look at the concept of geographic regions.

It is difficult to categorize these stories as belonging to a particular genre.  They give a sense of ‘what if’ and invite one to see the world from a slightly different tilt.  The brevity of the first and third stories keep one from getting a strong sense of the characters but there is a succinct poetry in some of the concepts presented that keeps one interested in the storyline, short though it is.  I think this story will appeal to those in search of a quick read that will stimulate the imagination.

A copy of this story was provided to me for review.
