Moro's Price by MC Hana (review) ADULT title

 Moro's Price

Warning: This is an ADULT m/m erotic science fiction title that is very spicy and dark and is not for squeamish or easily offended readers.

Blurb:
Cheated out of freedom and destined for a lifetime of servitude, gladiator and slave Moro Dalgleish escapes from a brutal arena. Valier Antonin, a lonely student, is tormented by dark urges he's forbidden to indulge. When the two men meet on the skyscraper roof where Moro plans to commit suicide, Valier offers a bargain: sex with Valier will infect Moro with the sentient symbiont endemic in Valier's part-human race, with death the likely result.

As one of the infection's rare survivors, Moro learns he is now a free Camalian citizen. He's also effectively married to Valier, crown prince of the Camalian Commonwealth. Expecting a shallow encounter with a doomed slave, Valier learns Moro is his Knife, the mate who can stabilize Valier's undisciplined mind and make him fit to rule.

My review:

5 out of 5 stars

 Moro's Price by MC Hana is the darkly erotic m/m science fiction story that features Moro Dagliesh, a tortured man who has been subjected to the sadistic machinations of two different masters.  A desperate attempt to escape his torment results in his becoming embroiled with a seductive individual named Val who promises his release through an entity named Cama, who will either destroy him or secure his safety.  Unfortunately, there are more forces at play than just the readily visible ones and not only Moro’s survival but that of entire planets may be at stake in an intricate game whose rules are only known to a few elite beings.

This mesmerizing novella is a fantastic combination of science fiction and sensuality which explores the dark seduction of pain and pleasure.  The remarkable combination of fantastical beings and imaginative worlds and situations are blended together in a very compelling tale that provides both a very spicy read and a wonderful romance.  There are plenty of twists and turns as more and more charismatic beings are introduced and the highs and lows give one the sensation of a roller-coaster ride even as one roots for Moro to have a life free from the torment that he has been experiencing for so long.  Be warned, there are pretty intense and disturbing sexual situations but these become overshadowed by the fascinating developments as more and more conflicts are revealed.  This tale reminds me of the dark erotic fantasy ‘Kushiel” series by Jacqueline Carey which was just as mesmerizing and every time I browse through “Moro’s Price” to check a detail, I am again captured in the spell of Moro and Val’s story.  There are so many intriguing threads that I am hopeful that there will be many more sequels because even though this story had a satisfying ending, I want to know more about all of these characters and I will definitely be on the lookout for other works by this very talented author.

Demon of Envy by Jennifer Lynne (super book blast, GFT) ADULT title

ADULT title

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Jennifer will be awarding a $25 Amazon Gift Card, plus a signed print copy of Gods of Love (1-3) and a set of the GODS OF LOVE cover postcards to a randomly drawn winner via the rafflecopter at the end of this post, during the tour (International Giveaway).

Phthonos, god of envy and jealousy, has been given a second chance at life and love in the mortal realm. He is desperate to make up for the mistakes of his past. But is Thon more demon than god? And if the demon Envy wins out, how will this lonely god ever find room in his heart for love?

Olivia is an ordinary woman living an ordered life, but at thirty-two true romance appears to have eluded her. Everywhere she looks people are in relationships or falling in love, but her career as an administrator and her charity work are enough to keep the demon of envy at bay.

Or so she thinks…until the moment he turns up on her doorstep with a demand that rips her life and her heart wide open and leaves her at risk of eternal torment.

Demon of Envy is the fifth novella in the GODS OF LOVE series, but each story is designed as a stand-alone with the Greek gods of desire as a common theme. The series can be read in any order.

Now enjoy an excerpt:

The need to engulf her with everything raging inside flooded over him with such force he went super-still. Get it under control. The darkness was too all-consuming, and she couldn't withstand him if he lost it. She was so delicate and easy to break, despite that elusive core of inner strength, and he had to remember at all times to hold himself back.

She was human. She was fragile. And she was about to become his if he could only control his demon long enough to keep her safe.

He shucked off his T-shirt and threw it to one side, before moving forward to take over from her fumbling fingers. "With pleasure." Remember. Do it slowly. He managed to release two more of the tiny buttons before a waft of her perfume teased his nostrils. It was a musky scent that reminded him of hot nights and seductive need, so long-forgotten that its sudden effect on his senses blasted his self-control to pieces. With a groan that rattled his throat on the way out he grabbed the two sides of her blouse and yanked them apart, the remaining three buttons flying off in all directions with a ripping pop, pop, pop.

"Oh!" Her gorgeous mouth formed into a round of surprise. He clutched at her wrists before she could cover her breasts, then released them slowly when he felt her peak of embarrassment begin to subside.

"No! Don't ever cover yourself when you are with me. I must look at you." She was solidly proportioned, with more flesh than was the current fashion, judging by what he'd seen in his brief time back here. But he liked it better when there was something substantial to hold onto.

His fingers trembled as he traced around first one large globe then the other. Her skin was so white he could see the blue network of veins peeking through from beneath. Her life force, so close to the surface. So tantalizing.

Losing Control by Jen Frederick (release spotlight and GIVEAWAY)

Summary

I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian's whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that's okay.

Mild Excerpt

“Bad morning?”

The question comes from a rich deep voice to my right. Some stupid actor, probably. The notes of his voice are perfectly modulated as if he spent years perfecting the tone and depth to reach the biggest audience.

“Yeah, what’s it to you?” I challenge because I’m not in the mood to be chatted up by some wannabe in an off, off Broadway production who wants to try out some new lines on a messenger girl.

My sneering gaze melts right off my face when it lands on the owner of the voice. Dark haired and dark eyed, the stranger gives me a slow smile as I take him in. He’s tall, much taller than my five foot four inch frame. I have to trek upward to see the entire package.

And there’s so much to appreciate from his trim waist to the wide shoulders encased in a gray wool suit coat that fits him so well I wonder if he was sewn into it. Tiny stitches on the lapel mark it’s expensive provenance. A dark tanned neck gives way to a firm chin and lush lips.
Bee stung is the description that I’ve heard used to describe the same look on super models. Those lips are about the only soft thing on his face. Those lips and a hollow on the side of his face that appears when those plush lips curve upward. The divot is too shallow and wide to be termed a dimple, but it’s just as devastating.

One hand is stuck in a pocket and his jacket is pushed behind the hand to reveal a flat stomach. No desk paunch on this guy. There’s an intense sexual aura about him. The nonchalant stance, the dark gaze, the lush lips are all an invitation to rip the buttons of his snowy white shirt apart and see exactly what lies underneath all of those fabrics.

I stick a thumb under my jaw under the guise of giving my chin a scratch just to make sure my mouth is closed. This guy? He can practice lines with me all he wants.

Extra Hot Excerpt

“What makes you think I’ll be done with you?” He says and he moves my hands upward until they meet in an arch above my head and he can grip my wrists in one big fist. Free, his left hand slides down my arm, leaving a trail of goose bumps in his wake. His mouth is on my chin, my jaw, and then my neck. He’s tasting me, pressing the flat of his tongue against my racing pulse. “Maybe I’ll never be done with you and your solid gold pussy.” At the last word, he closes his mouth over that pulse point and sucks hard. The only thing holding me up is his hand around my wrist. He pumps his thigh against me and an involuntary moan escapes my lips. “I don’t care,” I manage to choke out this obvious lie because my body cares a lot. “I’m not a toy. You don’t get to put me in Barbie’s expensive town home and play with me until you’re bored. I’m a fucking real person and my mom’s a real person. And we don’t need this shit right now.” He doesn’t stop my diatribe but he doesn’t lift his mouth from my skin either. He’s sucking hard at the spot where my neck curves into my shoulder and his hand is under my ass, moving me backward and forward along his thigh. His other hand has worked its way under my shirt and is palming my breast, a large thumb rubbing my nipple. I realize my hands are free and that I’ve been holding them above my head while he rubs all over me. When I drop my hands to his shoulders I find I can’t push him anyway. Instead, I’m using his shoulders as leverage to grind down on his thigh. The nerve endings of my sex are hyper sensitized and I swear I can feel every thread of his superfine wool pants. His leg moves, a tiny hitch, but it interrupts the rhythm and removes the pressure. “Don’t you stop,” I threaten him, all the heat in my tone has turned from anger to throaty desire. “Shh, bunny, I got you.” He lifts me completely and spins me around. I have no option but to wrap my legs around him. A few quick steps and we’re in another bedroom with one giant bed and nothing much else. He tumbles me back onto the bed and then lowers himself on top of me, and there’s nothing in my field of vision but the hard planes of his face and the ruddy flush of desire on the high points of his cheekbones. He looks fierce and hungry. Before I can capture another thought, his mouth is on mine and his hand is pushing aside the lace of my soaked panties. I’m moaning from both the feel of his thick tongue inside of my mouth and the sensation of one and then two of his fingers thrusting inside me. Sucking hard on his tongue, I lift my hips to grind against his hand. His free hand spears my hair and tugs my head back as if he can’t get his tongue deep enough inside me. He tastes of spearmint and earthiness, of true desire. My whole body is alive and it’s straining toward him, toward completion. I brace my feet against the mattress, seeking more pressure. Breaking away from his mouth, I pant, “Harder. Fuck me harder with your fingers.” I give him a quick once over. His suit is ruined. He never took even his coat off when he finger fucked me and I’m guessing the fragile wool wasn’t meant to be worn during any intense physical encounters. There are creases in the arms and shoulders were I clutched him and was that a … stain on his thigh. I ducked my head to hide my embarrassment. “You owe me a lot of explanations.” “I’ll be here when you’re done. Come back and we'll talk.” I give him an absent nod but it’s not sufficient of a response for him. He strides over and tips my head back. “I’m having this suit bronzed, you know.” My cheeks heat because I know he’s referring to the mark in the wool made from my arousal. He leans down and gives me a hard kiss.  “Come back here tonight.” It’s a demand and not a question.

My review

4.5 out of 5 stars

Honor Reclaimed by Tonya Burrows is the enthralling military romantic suspense tale that continues the exciting and emotional ‘Hornet’ series that follows a group of highly trained men who each has a handicap to overcome even as they constantly become involved in highly risky operations.  Seth Harlan is struggling to become integrated in the HORNET organization but must deal with survivor’s guilt, the aftermath of his horrific experiences and the distrust of those who are unsure about his stability and dependability.  Phoebe Leighton has her own issues to overcome, including a guilty conscience, even as she becomes enmeshed in a struggle for women’s rights in a country devastated by its conflicts.  The other members of HORNET continue to deal with personal issues even as they discover that there is another of their military brethren caught in his own hell that they must come together to rescue, provided they, and he, can survive long enough to accomplish the mission.

This action-packed series continues, with tantalizing glimpses of the events that continue to hone all of these compelling warriors.  The remarkable blend of political and military machinations continue to complicate the lives and careers of the complex and sexy men who comprise this elite but dysfunctional cadre of fighters.  This author does such a wonderful job of penning an emotional tale with starkly horrific situations that highlight the courage and strength of her characters yet invest the reader with the desire to root for these sometimes literally tortured individuals.  The camaraderie and need for absolute trust in one another is underscored in these tales yet the inevitable human weakness is sensitively portrayed with sometimes very surprising developments.  Be forewarned, one is inexorably drawn into the world that these characters occupy until one is compelled to keep reading just to find out the outcome which can be somewhat distressingly realistic and it is possible to become so mesmerized that all other obligations are ignored...in other words, don’t start the story unless you have time to read it because you may find yourself very late for other commitments!

A copy of this very exciting story was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

Twist of Fate by Shawna C. Jones (Virtual Book Tour, Guest post and excerpt) Goddess Fish Tours

 I am happy to have the opportunity to share a guest post by Shawna C. Jones today.

******************

Greetings ELF! Thank you for allowing me to visit your blog today.

There are several themes in my novel, Twist of Fate, and I wanted to share some thoughts about one of them: Living as a starseed.

First of all, what is a starseed?  It is someone who originated on another planet or star, not here on earth. Although a lot of us starseeds have had numerous lifetimes here, we have a longing for our true home. This place does not feel like home to us, and we feel like foreigners or aliens. This leaves us feeling lonely, strange, different, and outside the norm of our families. We are known to be the dark sheep.

Most starseeds have a mission or purpose here that we volunteered for. I am a planetary healer and signed up for this job, whether I get recognition or not. My job is to anchor or seed more light into this planet, as hard as that is. I am not the only one working on this, as there are many, many others doing this great work. We are here, as well, to be witnesses to the UFO’s that will be showing up more and more. Don’t panic. They are here to help, and starseeds will help calm the masses.

I wasn’t going to talk about starseeds in my novel, which is based on true events. But my soul insisted, so I reluctantly talked about it, even though I didn’t use the word “starseed” but alluded to it. I knew it might sound crazy, so I had to prepare for that. This book is not for everyone, but to say it is just a starseed journey would diminish the travel and romance parts of the story. Falling in love was the last thing on my mind, but fate has her way. Just a reminder that some things can’t be changed, unless we change our choices. Why is it so hard to do the right thing sometimes?
Anyway, as difficult as it was to write the novel, I am glad I did it. And I sure am glad it’s finished. Reliving the past over and over is trying on the nerves and psyche. I do hope the lessons help others, and most of all prevent others from making the same mistakes I did.

I have included some starseed questions below, so others could decide for themselves if they are starseeds. And if you are, you can decide to stay in the closet or come out and join us. We’re here to support you. Welcome Home!

Starseed Questions

Do you have a feeling you don’t belong here on Earth?
Do you feel like an outsider in your family, and always have to fit in no matter where you go?
Do you have a feeling you belong to another star or planet, and love looking at the stars?
Do you experience Earth as being a violent, chaotic place and can’t bear abuse or cruelty to others?
Do you believe in the existence of UFO’s and extra- terrestrial beings, and like to watch science fiction, or read books about these things?

Twist of Fateby Shawna C. Jones

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Shawna grew up with a secret that she couldn't share with anyone. She thought of it as her "inner demon" and it shaped her life. When she became an adult, it sent her on a quest to try to find her Real Home. In Paris, she fell in love with a fellow traveler who changed her life, for better or worse. Their relationship was full of discovery and of lessons learned.
How could she come to terms with her "inner demon"? Can we change our fate or karma? Does love really conquer all?
This book is based on a true story of an independent woman's search for her true self and the meaning of life, and how she found answers in unexpected places.
EXCERPT
“Are you alright?” I asked, touching her hands, which were now empty, but still shaking a bit.
“I will be. Give me a minute.” She closed her eyes.
I bent down and started picking up the pieces of the cup. Tea leaves were splashed everywhere. One group looked like Tower Bridge, but one group caught my eye. As I looked at it closely, it seemed to be a face. I couldn’t tell if it was male or female, but it had slits for eyes and mouth. I tried to get closer still, when my aunt’s foot tapped it and it disappeared.
I quickly picked everything up and went to get a broom and dustpan. My aunt looked at me and smiled a little.
“I’ll take care of everything. You just relax.” I went inside and came back out. I cleaned everything up. When I came back out I found her standing at the edge of the patio; she was staring at the ocean.
She turned and looked at me. Color had come back into her face and she appeared calm.
“I don’t know what happened there. But there was definitely an unknown entity around. You have a lot of protection around you. Make sure white light surrounds you at all times. Be very careful of the future you’re stepping into. Some of it is a problem. I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all.”
“I’ll change it.”
“Yes. Some of it, you might be able to. You can always try.” She didn’t sound convincing.
“You don’t know what it is?”
“No. But veils are not a good sign. Just be careful and try not to be too concerned about anything.”
“You know that won’t happen.” We both smiled. I hugged her tightly. What would I do without her?
I knew I liked to live in the fast lane. Perhaps I would have to move over to the slow lane for a while. No. That would not be me. And besides, Paris was waiting for us.
 Lesson: Always protect yourself. And when a psychic warns you, pay extra close attention.
During the course of the Virtual Book Tour, Twist of Fate will be available for only $0.99.
No Hard Feelings by Marta Tandori
No Hard Feelings
 Blurb:
Some secrets can’t stay hidden, especially when they involve murder…
Liz Farrell is still reeling over the murder of her mother almost a year earlier at the hands of her father, Leo Bauer, when she receives the startling news that she’s inherited her estranged father’s sizable estate. Unable to come to terms with her father’s unspeakable legacy, Liz and her grandmother, Kate Stanton, visit Leo’s property in Benedict Canyon, desperately hoping to find closure. Instead, they find a bunker hidden under an old hunting lodge that had been used by Leo at one time to hold Liz’s mother captive. Horrified by the discovery, Liz immediately orders the bunker filled and the lodge destroyed but the ensuing demolition quickly comes to a grinding halt after a man’s remains are discovered in a shallow grave at the base of the old lodge. Once the press get wind of the gruesome discovery, rumors quickly surface, linking the remains to a murder spree that took place at the same address almost half a century earlier; a murder spree conveniently covered up by the governor at the time who also happened to be Leo Bauer’s stepbrother. Liz and Kate’s efforts to uncover the truth behind the murders are soon hampered by family secrets and a killer who’s intent on finishing the job started almost fifty years ago.
Enjoy this excerpt:
I need to escape him. I need to escape the man who is both my lover and my captor, but there is nowhere to run.
With a firm grip on my good arm, he pulls me along after him through the crush of humanity, toward the converging crowds gathering at Pandora’s Box on the corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights. The closer we get to our destination, the louder and more boisterous the crowds of protestors and police seem to become. I cry out in pain as my body is jostled, hurting my dislocated left shoulder, which is supported only by the flimsy sling he has fashioned for me. However, he doesn’t hear me cry out because he’s too busy trying to keep up with his two friends.
For a second, I actually toy with the idea of wrenching my arm out of his grip and making a run for it, but almost immediately, I’m overcome by a fear so paralyzing that I’m barely able to breathe. He’s already given me a nasty taste of what he will do to me if I ever try leaving him. He’s promised to stop at nothing—and spare no one—until he finds me, even if it means killing every member of my family. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from living with this monster, it’s to always take his threats seriously. With a sinking heart, I realize I am nothing more than a pawn to him; valuable when needed, but as with everything in his life, sadly expendable once I’ve served my purpose in his pursuit of his master plan. He has very few displays of human emotion, so it’s difficult to figure out what he’s thinking at any given time. One thing I am sure of, though, is that he trusts no one, least of all me.
About the Author:
By the time Marta Tandori reached fifth grade, she was an avid reader and writer with a stack of short stories collecting dust in a box under her bed but it wasn’t until she began studying acting in her early twenties at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York that Marta realized acting wasn’t really her passion – writing fiction was. What followed was years of writing workshops as well as correspondence courses in writing for children through the Institute of Children’s Literature in Connecticut. She credits the award winning author, Troon Harrison, as the instructor who helped her find her literary voice. Marta’s first work of middle-grade fiction, BEING SAM, NO MATTER WHAT was published in 2005, followed by EVERY WHICH WAY BUT KUKU! in 2006. With her more recent endeavors, Marta has shifted her writing focus to mysteries and suspense having “strong female protagonists with closets full of nasty skeletons and the odd murder or two to complicate their already complicated lives”. Puddle Pug by Kim Norman and Tooth and Claw by Jim Aronson
Puddle Pug by Kim Norman is a cute children’s book illustrated by Keika Yamaguchi that celebrates the joy of puddles. Percy the pug leaps and frolics through all kinds of puddles but naturally the one he likes the best is already claimed by a mama sow and her piglets, forcing him to either find an alternative or provide a reason for them to share. The dynamic drawings and delightful words elicit such a sense of joy that one cannot help but smile when browsing through this fun read. I think that this book would provide great entertainment for a young child and give a warm fuzzy feeling to anyone who loves animals and admires perseverance.
Tooth & Claw: The Wild World of Big Predators by Jim Arnosky is a slightly oversized and beautifully illustrated children’s book that does a nice job of introducing various predatory mammalian species, particularly the felids with a nod to the intimidatingly large Green Anaconda. There are lovely fold-out pages that have additional drawings and facts and an intriguing afterward from the author/illustrator that details the research that went into the production of this book.
I love the exquisite depictions of not only the animal being described but the other details such as a sketch of the skull of some of these impressive predators or the pawprint comparisons. I was disappointed that there was not more detail about the tiger as that is a predator that I have always been fascinated by but this is still a beautiful book and an excellent teaching tool to demonstrate some of the remarkable members of the animal world.
Her Perfect Mate by Paige Tyler
Her Perfect Mate (X-Ops)
by Paige Tyler
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

He's a High-Octane Special Ops Pro

When Special Forces Captain Landon Donovan is chosen for an assignment with the Department of Covert Operations, he's stunned to find his new partner is a beautiful woman who looks like she couldn't hurt a fly, never mind take down a terrorist.

She's No Kitten

Ivy Halliwell isn't your average covert op. She's a feline shifter, and more dangerous than she looks. Her feline DNA means she can literally bring out the claws when things get dicey. She's worked with a string of hotheaded military guys who've underestimated her special skills in the past. But when she's partnered with special agent Donovan, a man sexy enough to make any girl purr, things begin to heat up. He doesn't think she's a freak-and he's smokin' hot. Soon they're facing a threat even greater than anyone imagines...and an animal magnetism impossible to ignore.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
“So, you and Ivy are just partners, huh?” Angelo asked.
Landon picked up his beer. “Yeah.”
“It looks like more than that to me.”
For a guy who looked like he could get a job as a bouncer in a biker bar, Angelo could be damn perceptive. “Well, I’m trying to make sure it’s not.”
Angelo flicked him a glance as he absently rubbed his thumb up and down the label on his beer bottle. “What’s Ivy have to say about that? Because from where I’m sitting, she’s clearly got a thing for you.
“Ivy feels the same way I do.” Which only made not giving in and taking her to bed even harder.
“You’re both playing with fire, Landon. You remember the last time you got involved with a woman you worked with.”
He didn’t need a reminder. “I know. Which is why Ivy’s off limits.”
“Then you won’t mind if I make a move on her.”
Jealousy immediately shot through Landon. He scowled at his friend, unable to help it.
Angelo grinned as he got to his feet. “Relax, dude. I’m just going to dance with her.”
Landon watched Angelo make his way over to Ivy, trying not to notice the dazzling smile she gave him. It didn’t help the rest of the guys picked that moment to decide to come back to the table for another round of drinks, leaving the two of them alone on the dance floor. If Ivy was going to hook up with anyone on his former team, it’d be Angelo for sure. Even he had to admit they looked good together. Friend or not, if Angelo and Ivy ended up leaving together, he was going to kill the guy.
