Treasured Find by Nancy Corrigan (Re-release spotlight, excerpt and review) ADULT title

Royal Pride, book 1
Sometimes the greatest finds are unexpected
After five centuries, Rafe Alexander knows what to expect from life—boredom broken by the occasional call from Shifter Affairs. No matter how mundane the job, he always accepts their plea for help. He knows what it’s like to lose loved ones to the shifter trafficking rings decimating their species.
But the task that takes him to West Virginia changes everything. A human is dead. A shifter child is missing. And the human female connected to both tragedies is hiding a secret.
He needs to discover the mystery surrounding her. But the felines he houses—lion, tiger and jaguar—want him to get close to her for another reason. Jasmine is special, both for how she affects him and for the treasure she’s been guarding.
And as danger mounts, he’s left balancing his desire for revenge and his need to protect. But the line between them isn’t always black and white, especially where his family is concerned.
NOTE: This book was previously released. It has been revised and re-edited.

Excerpt #1
“Don’t get any crazy ideas. I am not going out with any of your husband’s friends. No more blind dates, thank you very much.”
“You don’t need any help from me. Once you drop the ‘stay away from me’ glare you usually wear around members of the opposite sex, you’ll have no problem picking up a guy.” Cindy tapped a single finger against her chin. “We might even have to beat them off you, especially if you display your goods a little more.”
She tugged at Jazz’s shirt until the lacy edge barely covered her nipples.
Jazz gasped and slapped away her friend’s hands. She quickly righted her top and glared at Cindy. Jazz hated her goods. Her breasts were too big for her frame, but genetics was a crapshoot. You got whatever the DNA mixing bowl dished out.
“Stop it. I am not enticing any lewd perverts with a showing of my goods.”
Cindy raised her hands. “Just promise me you’ll keep an open mind.”
Jazz bit back her sharp retort. Cindy meant well. It wasn’t her fault Jazz had to keep men at arm’s length. It wasn’t Jazz’s either, but those were the facts. Time for another lie. What was one more?
“Fine. The next hot guy who shows any interest in me…” I’ll ignore just like I did with the blond hunk Josh was talking to. She inwardly rolled her eyes at the ridiculousness of her lame fib. “…will be the one I take home.”
“Now that’s an offer I can’t resist.”
Jazz pivoted. A wide expanse of muscle filled her vision. She followed the ridges of his stomach lower. His narrow waist met lean, denim-covered hips. Openmouthed, she stared at the growing bulge in his pants. An answering spark of arousal lighted within her. Shivers of awareness, the same ones that had skipped down her spine a few minutes ago, traveled from the hardening tips of her breasts to her clit. The bundle of nerves took on a heartbeat of its own.
She glanced into his face. Exotic, uptilted honey-brown eyes were framed by long blond lashes. Specks of color floated in those oddly bright eyes—gold, blue, green. Beautiful and downright captivating.
His full lips, parted slightly, glistened as if he’d licked them. She swiped her tongue across her suddenly dry ones.
“Am I hot enough for you?” He rubbed his thumb over the corner of her mouth. “Because I’m interested. Very, very interested.”

A little about Nancy…
A true romantic at heart, Nancy Corrigan is convinced there’s a knight in shining armor for every woman (or man), but you won’t find damsels in distress in her stories. She adores pairing alpha heroes with women strong enough to match them and bring them to their knees. She also enjoys flipping the traditional roles in romances because her motto is—love and people should never be forced to conform to anyone’s norm.

She holds a degree in chemistry and has worked in research but now focuses on ensuring quality. She considers it the perfect outlet for her as she’s the first to admit she has some OCD tendencies. It carries over into her writing life too. While engrossed in a novel, she has a habit of forgetting to eat and sleep. Fortunately, she’s married to her own knight in shining armor who understands her oddities and loves her anyway. They reside in Pennsylvania with their three children, dog, snake and guinea pigs. Her other interests include tattoos, animals, classic cars and all things spooky and sexy.

4.5 out of 5 stars
Treasured Find by Nancy Corrigan is the first book in the ‘Royal Pride’ series and centers around several very special children who are of interest to Rafe Alexander and his pride. Jasmine (Jazz) has been very careful to hide the two very special little boys that are the one bright reminder of a horrific time in her life, but when a close friend is murdered, she knows that she must share some of her secrets with her ex, who has suddenly become a guardian of a remarkable little girl. Despite her distrust of Rafe’s sudden appearance in their lives, she is inexplicably drawn to him but then she discovers he’s exactly what she has been warned against. Now she must decide whether to trust her instincts, and the wrong decision can be fatal for all of them.

This fascinating paranormal romance is a delicious introduction to a world that has very special feline shapeshifters who are part of the elite section of their society. I love the novelty of these multispecies shifters, and the complex organization that they have. There are several intriguing characters that are introduced, as well as several layers of mystery, some of which is resolved in this story, and others which will continue into other books in the series. The combination of shapeshifters, children, and humans is a great draw and provides a nice change from many of the stories in this genre. The heat and complicated relationship between the main characters is delicious, and I was fascinated by the interaction of the multiple felids. Many of the characters have painful pasts that have made them despair of finding a true mate, but one definitely hopes that even the most damaged of them will find someone to love and be loved by.

It is my understanding that this is a revamped and re-edited version of an earlier release and that this story is connected to the ‘Kagan Wolves’ series but I had no trouble reading it as a stand-alone story and I am anxious to read more stories that are set in this world because I can’t wait to find out how some of the issues are resolved.

Hunter Betrayed (ADULT title) by Nancy Corrigan (guest post, review and GIVEAWAY)

I am delighted to have a guest post from author Nancy Corrigan...

From angel to doll, terms of endearment I love
by Nancy Corrigan

Terms of endearment. Some people hate them, others love them. I absolutely adore them WHEN they’re spoken as they are meant to be, a way to expression love and make your partner feel special. My husband and I use them. I’m dear, love or wife. He’s hun, dear or husband. It adds to our relationship and ties us together. But I’ve heard other couples use the same sweet words in a negative way. It’s a matter of tone, body language, respect and of course, love.
I incorporate them in my books too, both in positive and negative light. In Hunter Betrayed, Calan affectionately calls Harley, flower. It stems from his first image of her sitting in a field of white flowers with butterflies dancing in the air around her. The name also reflects how he sees her as the only beautiful thing in his dark life.
‘Unable to bear the suspense any longer, he opened his eyes and surveyed the woods to seek out her angelic face. She stood several feet away, devilish black hounds encircling her. Saliva dripped from their mouths, bloody pools had replaced their eyes and three-inch nails tipped their paws. Their bulky bodies brought them to her chest. Next to the animals bred to rip the fairies and their creatures apart, she appeared tiny. Delicate. Beautiful.
A flower in the midst of death.’
Some of the other terms of endearment I’ve used include—love, angel, kitten, doll and sweetheart. I’m sure I’ll continue to add them to my writing as long as my characters love them too :-)
I’d love to hear some of your favorite names too.

EXCERPT:

Rated PG-13

“I’ve fantasized about you for years and this…” She pressed her fingertips to his cheek. “This face is more captivating than any I could’ve imagined.”

The rightness he’d experienced nine years ago returned, stronger than before. He wanted Harley and he’d have her. “Kiss me.”

She shook her head.

“Harley.” He waited until she met his gaze. “Kiss me.”

Hesitantly, she pressed her mouth to his. He nudged at the seam of her lips with his tongue. She parted them and he slipped inside. Her flavor hit him. She tasted of candy, a delectable treat he could easily become addicted to. He moaned and kissed her harder. After a long moment where he led her into passion, she dug her fingers into his hair, grabbing sections of the short strands and tugging him closer.

On a whimper, she linked her legs around his waist. Her heat pressed against his stomach. He automatically arched his back to line his erection to her sex. Her small stature and his tight bonds prevented him from experiencing her tempting warmth along the length of his shaft. It didn’t dim the lust consuming him. The scent of her arousal and her squirming body intensified it.

He took control of the kiss, needing her wild. She’d beg for his manhood to fill her dripping center. He wouldn’t settle for anything else. Their teeth banged as the melding of their mouths grew wicked. He swallowed her moans and fed her his. Quicker, deeper he stroked his tongue with hers. She tightened her grip on his hair. Her nails bit into his scalp. The sting pushed his lusts higher.

More. By the gods, more. He nipped at her lips. Blood flavored the kiss, blood that held the tang of pure chaos. It was her taint, a curse from her father and the reason she was turning into a monster.

He turned his head, breaking the kiss. The evidence of the stain working its way through her body and soul, infecting her slowly and steadily, killed his runaway desire.

She eased back. The weight of her stare forced his lids open. Tears welled in her eyes, yet her expression remained neutral. “You can taste it, can’t you? It’s not just me.”

My review:

Hunter Betrayed by Nancy Corrigan is the first book in the ‘Wild Hunt’ paranormal series and centers around Calan, the leader and eldest sibling of the feared and legendary Huntsmen.  The curse of Dahm has endured for centuries of nightmarish torture of the Huntsmen and will only be broken if one of his half-breed children can be convinced to help them.  Harley Callahan has been plagued by death following her throughout her entire life and only the support of her brother Ian has helped her keep ahead of the inimical red cap Raul.  Calan and Harley must find a way to form a bond and trust each other completely but the obstacles that they must overcome may be more than their developing relationship can survive.

This exciting erotic paranormal novella introduces an unusual perspective on the Wild Hunt with glimpses of several individuals who hopefully will get their own chance in the spotlight.  Those who are squeamish should be forewarned that there is a fair amount of blood and gore permeating the tale but there are also plenty of heroic feats and demonstrations of intense loyalty, not to mention sensual and heartwarming interludes.  There are a few frustrating episodes that are not quite well-developed enough for me, including the events that lead to Harley’s brother’s fateful decision, Harley’s blithe acceptance of Calan’s alternate appearance, and the naivete that seems to allow Raul to find Harley but this is a definitely action-packed introduction to what promises to be a compelling series.  An entertaining quick read filled with creative twists on familiar myths.

EXCERPT

Mira grasped his wrist, stopping him from reaching for the next movie. “Ignoring this won’t make it go away.”

He yanked his hand free. “What do you want me to do? I’ve made it clear that I want you. You said no and I’m in no mood to fight tonight.”

Silence stretched while he continued to unpack. He felt her eyes on his back no matter where he moved in the room.

Finally, she sighed. “No matter who I end up mating, I don’t want to lose you.”

He slammed a disc down. “You can’t lose what you don’t have, Mira. And this,” he brushed his fingertips over his scarred cheek which carried her scent, “doesn’t give you any rights to me.”

He turned away, unable to bear the hurt expression on her face, and reached for another movie. Not looking at her didn’t stop the memory of her laving the wound her brother had caused when he’d swiped a clawed hand across Josh’s face.

Josh had almost kissed her that night, probably would’ve made love to her too if she would’ve let him. Kade had stopped them in a frenzied panic as if he’d known they were about to get naked. That was when all the ridiculous rules had started.

“It makes you my beloved human.”

He whirled around. “No, it makes me Devin’s fucking beloved human. Or did you forget that rule?”

My review:

4.5 out of 5 stars

Favorite Obsession by Nancy Corrigan is Book 3 of the ‘Royal Pride’ series.  Josh Conway is a human with ties to the shifter society, not least of which is his guardianship of his niece Megan and the complications with Megan’s twin, Molly.  Josh is frustrated by his exclusion from the shifter-human matings that are allowed for male royal shifters since he and royal Mira have formed a connection, with the approval of her cats, yet the Council is ordering her to take a mate.  There are complications due to the conflict between the single-shifters and the royals with their multiple animals, the need for secrecy to keep the existence of shifters from becoming common knowledge, ex-lovers, and the past traumas each has experienced.  It will take divine intervention for Josh to find a way to survive his courtship of the complex yet alluring Mira and convince the shifter world to accept their bonding.

This erotic paranormal tale provides an intriguing twist on shifter tales with its focus on a schism within shifter society itself.  The heartrending backgrounds of some of the characters make this a poignant tale that is counterbalanced by the intense relationship that forms between Mira and Josh.  Those who are squeamish should be forewarned that there is a fair amount of violence that forms the natures of the hero and heroine but it is still a compelling story.  The author does a nice job of establishing enough background that this story can be read as a stand-alone but the connections are so intriguing that I definitely would like to read the stories that lead up to this one and am anxious to read subsequent tales that explore further the remarkable events that take place in this story, particularly if the twins are spotlighted.  This is a nice exploration of the star-crossed lovers theme with a paranormal flavor and an intense and enjoyable story.
