Absolute Doubt by Cherry Adair (VBB, excerpt, and GIVEAWAY) GFT

I have the pleasure of sharing an interview with the effervescent Cherry Adair...

Q: You have so many awesome books out currently. How many have you published and when did you start your writing career?

Cherry: I've published- hang on I have to count them. . . .50 something J I started writing long before I published. I wrote (and shredded) 17 books before The Mercenary came out in 1993.

Q: Since you live in the Northwest, where do you get your inspiration? Do you travel to the places in your books?

Cherry: I have traveled to many of the exotic locals in my books, but not all of them. I don't like creepy-crawlies or not being anywhere near a shower or a flushing toilet! (And observant readers will notice that my heroines don't like the same things! J)

Q: What other type of research do you do in order to start a book? Esp with the Black ops elements in your T-FLAC series?

Cherry: I do extensive research - it's one of the most time consuming, and fun, aspects of writing for me. I'm lucky enough to have fans and friends in interesting places who fill me in on some of the local color first hand. When I'm doing research, I try to find an expert in that field who is usually happy to answer all of my questions. Over the years I've made a lot of fascinating contacts because of my writing (and a few very scary people, too)! I know several black ops guys who are incredibly monosyllabic in their answers, and it's like pulling hens’ teeth to get any kind of direct information out them. But once they got what I was writing, and that not only didn't I need to know troop movement in Iraq (or wherever, I really didn't want to know classified Intel) they're great at giving me other interesting factoids to make my operatives fun and interesting.

I met a strange and um…unusual nuclear physicist who helped me with info in The Bodyguard. A Venezuelan "business man" who loves my books, and has offered to help me with whatever I need (Let's leave it at that. Lol). Jacques Cousteau's grandson, Fabien Cousteau (who is as yummy and delish as one of my heroes!) has helped with research for several of my books over the years. And I found a fascinating treasure hunter named Dr. Lubos Kordac who is helping me with details on salvaging for the Cutter Cay books. I've collected a fascinating little black book filled with incredible and invaluable contacts. If I told you where I hide it I'd have to kill you. J

Q: Is the T-FLAC series done now or will you continue those at some point?

Cherry: I love my T-FLAC operatives, and yes, I will write them as long as readers love them as much as I do. My latest T-FLAC book is ABSOLUTE DOUBT, the start of my Fallen Agents of T-FLAC series.

Q: Do you have a favorite character you've written? Who gave you the most trouble?

Cherry: I'm pretty fickle. Whichever character I'm writing at the time is always my favorite. I must admit though that I do have a soft spot for Marc Savin (The Mercenary) because he was my first hero. We always remember our first. J Or seventh, o twenties. . .lol

Q: Who do you read? Favorite authors? Are you reading anything now?

Cherry: I used to read a book a day. Now I'm lucky if I have time to finish a book in a month! That's the downside of doing what I do. I love being an author, but it's left me no time to enjoy one of my greatest pleasures. Some of my fave authors in no particular order - Ann Stuart, Stella Barcelona, Linda Howard. . .and dozens of others. J

Q: I know you like to take walks, what else do you do in your spare time?

Cherry: I don't like to take walks! I walk because it's good for me, and gets me away from my computer for a bit of fresh air. Lol And what spare time?

For more info on my books people can visit my website. And for fun and daily shenanigans, come and play with me on Facebook and/or Twitter.

EXCERPT

"Ash? I--I'm in a shitload of trouble."

Holding the cell phone to his ear, gritting his teeth against knifelike stabs biting along the nerves of his shattered tibia, T-FLAC operative Asher Daklin flung his bum leg off the coffee table. He'd never heard that tone in his brother's voice, and he went from stupor to full alert as his defense physiology kicked into high gear. As it did when he defused an explosive, his pulse slowed and his focus became pinpoint.

Hyper-alert, his voice calm and even, he speed-limped to the front door. "Where are you?" Swinging his coat over his bare chest, he shoved his Glock 41 Gen 5 in the back of his sweatpants, then thought better of it and stuck it one of his jacket pockets. "How bad?"

By habit, his earpiece was in the bowl beside a full clip and his keys. He inserted the earpiece, then slipped the phone and clip into his other pocket. "Let me speak to your CO." Like himself, Josh was an operative, though still a rookie, with barely a year in the field.

"I'm solo on this."

Fuckit. A "shitload of trouble" could mean damn near anything when out in the field. Especially unsupervised. His brother could be anywhere.

Powerful cartel leader Sin Diaz lives a dangerous life filled with secrets and lies, and surrounded by people who claim to have known him all his life. Is the sexy as hell leader of the ANSL, Sin Diaz, the enemy of her enemy, worse than Maza himself? Or is he someone entirely different than his reputation – and will he become her lover?

TOGETHER THEY HOLD THE KEY

Sin and Riva must work together to stop a madman who will go to any lengths to attain his terrifying goal. But can they unravel the truth in time? The timer is ticking.

What they don’t know could get them killed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
T-FLAC operative Riva Rimaldi had a clear mental image of the chopper she was on: It was hurtling toward the ground, following a fiery explosion.
Five out of the six people on board would die. She was sorry she couldn't forewarn the two operatives accompanying her of their impending death. The warning would be useless and come too late. That was the bitch of her ability. When she received a vision, she knew precisely what would happen, but not precisely when. Even more of a bitch was that she while she could see the future, her ability to modify it was typically nonexistent. Riva had to let the nightmares that ran through her brain play out in real life.
She saw it as the pilot did. A bright, swiftly moving light headed up at them from the trees below.
“SAM.” Surface-to-air missile? Out here? In the middle of nowhere?
Curling into a ball around her duffel, one hand wrapped in the backpack’s straps, Riva braced for impact. She might as well kiss her ass good-bye. Despite what she'd seen, no one would survive the hit, and if she did, she’d wish she hadn't.
Between one heartbeat and the next, the missile slammed the tail with a loud, fiery explosion, spinning what was left of the chopper end over end. A blast furnace of heat engulfed her as she was thrown around the cabin like a rag doll. Everything gyrated like a kaleidoscope around her, as if she were separate from the event. In the split second when rational thought was possible, Riva knew she couldn't jump out. Even if she had a chute, which she didn't, she'd be sliced and diced like chopped salad by the swiftly spinning blades if she attempted it.
I’m screwed.
Primal fear set in and all she could do was scream as she, and what was left of the burning chopper, hurtled uncontrollably toward the trees.
Ice Cold
Ice Cold
by Cherry Adair is part of her enjoyable T-FLAC series that centers around an elite group of counterterrorists.  Rafael Navarro is an expert at explosives and has the nickname ‘bomb whisperer’ but has kept his heart guarded ever since the tragic loss of his wife.  Honey Winston is a cybercrimes specialist who has worked hard to hone her skills and actively reinforces her ‘ice princess’ moniker.  The two are thrown together when a series of serious bombing attacks require their individual skills but neither is thrilled about partnering with each other nor the attraction that they are feeling.  They will have to work together if they are going to save the world as they know it but neither is sure that it is going to be worth compromising the emotional barriers each has erected for self-protection.
This was another fun read from a prolific author who excels at writing romantic suspense.  The intriguing equipment and fun toys that aid the operatives in their respective jobs adds both realism and intrigue to the overall story even as the sizzling attraction between the main characters adds complications to their already dangerous jobs.  It was fun to read about a female computer geek who is an engaging combination of prickly defensive agent and vulnerable woman even as she finds a way to breach the defenses of a macho ladies’ man who deals with past hurts by refusing to ever let anyone into his heart.  An entertaining addition to a fun series.
I had the great pleasure of listening to a talk by this wonderfully warm author a couple of years ago and her statement about the books in her office really resonated with me because she said that they were ‘old friends’ that she revisits every so often.  Only another bibliophile can understand the connection we have with our favorite stories that we go back to when we are feeling blue or stressed or in need of a guaranteed happy ending.  I also had the opportunity to watch Ms Adair in action as she graciously signed books and chatted with her adoring fans at the RWA conference in Anaheim this summer.  It was plain to see that she truly enjoys what she does and loves to interact with her readers and I was thrilled to have a chance to watch her arrange her display table artfully (I believe that she was an interior decorator in her previous incarnation) and to chat with her and reap the benefits of her droll wit.  I have enjoyed the stories I have read thus far and look forward to more adventures featuring the charismatic T-FLAC team.
Ice Cold is being spotlighted on the SOS Aloha blog at this link on November 6, 2012.
Dead on the Delta and Black Magic and, uh-oh, a new game!
Don't forget, Pocket After Dark provides a couple of e-books in their entirety on their site.  At this moment it is Dead on the Delta by Stacey Jay and Black Magic by Cherry Adair.  I admit that I am torn because I have so many books waiting and I don't really like being tied to my computer screen for so long....but even if you don't want to read the entire book there are also excerpts available for several genres, including Laura Griffin's Twisted, Julia London's The Seduction of Lady X, Delilah S. Dawson's Wicked As They Come, Stacey Jay's Blood on the Bayou, Meredith Duran's At Your Pleasure and Cherry Adair's Afterglow.  Visit at this link.
I have gotten a bit tired of my zoo because the creators have gotten a bit out of hand with their creations...yes, it is nice to be able to stock dinosaurs but now there are extinct and imaginary creatures as well as hybrids and the darn thing takes forever to load and then crashes frequently.  I had temporarily discontinued most of my word games and recently saw the ad for a hidden object game called "Gardens of Time" which is evidently popular on Facebook (which I still haven't joined...more on that another day).  I love hidden object games but do tend to get frustrated easily and then there's the whole bifocal thing...whether to peer nearsightedly at the screen without my glasses or not.  It is fun so far, although I have a few too many Egyptian artifacts in my garden already...I may have to reorganize one of these days...
