4.25 out of 5 stars

Worth the Risk by Claudia Connor is part of her 'The McKinney Brothers' series and centers on Stephen McKinney as he crosses paths with Hannah Walker, a younger woman, whose background is as complex as his own.  Each of them has been through a horrific crucible and bears scars that may prevent them from ever forming a meaningful relationship, but somehow, they gradually explore the connection that they each feel.  Unfortunately, events may conspire to prevent them from overcoming their past, unless they find a way to believe in what they mean to each other.

This contemporary romance story is a delicious addition to an intriguing series that spotlights a charismatic family.  It is heartwarming to watch the main characters work their way past their scars, both emotional and physical, and find a way to truly live and love again.  The glimpses of their respective families provide both wonderful background and hints of potential additional threads to be pursued in future stories.  There is a significant amount of violence in the history of each character and it made things a little too much over the top for me, especially as additional traumatic events come to pass. I was emotionally wrung out by the end of the story and there was not enough lightness to leaven out the angst that builds throughout it.  The care and sensitivity depicted, as well as the beautifully sensual scenes make this another enjoyable read by this author and I look forward to reading about more members of the McKinney family.

A copy of this story was provided to me for an honest review

My review for the first title in the series, Worth the Fall is at this link.
