A Curse of the Lucky by Nathan Wrann (VBB, excerpt, and GIVEAWAY) GFT

A Curse of the Lucky
Nathan Warann

Two things that Jack Smith has always had: bad legs and bad luck. With a violent attack at the Tarrytown Independence Day Carnival, that bad luck has caught up to him with deadly consequences. Going on the run with Jaelle–the mysterious girl of his dreams–he descends into a world of curses, blessings, and fortunetelling Gypsies. The deeper he gets, the more he realizes she might just be the one to save his life... or end it.

The Mr. Lucky Trilogy begins with A Curse of the Lucky.

My hands stung. Bad. And they looked like ground beef. I should have grabbed my gloves before leaving the house. And my leg braces. Then I could have put a little more weight on my legs. Or I could have just stayed home. The end result for this failed mission would have been the same. It wasn’t gonna happen.

Across the hub, Fiona stood beneath the Ferris Wheel, talking to some buzz-cutted, badly tattooed guy. White t-shirt, black shorts, and combat boots rounded out the general tough-guy-hooligan look he had going on. I’d never seen him around town; probably just some carny hitting on her.

With every second that passed I drifted further and further from my destiny with Becky London.

Until Fiona waved to me.

Instinctively I returned the gesture, waving at her with the small stuffed animal stuck to my five-fingered raw hamburger.

“Hi, Jack,” she called to me, with a smile.

The carny crossed his arms, flexed his tattooed biceps, and glared at me.

My throat clenched and my hand froze. Was this really going to happen? Was I actually going to get an opportunity to ask Becky out?

I picked up my crutches, ready to head toward Fiona, when a shout for help came to me from behind the fortuneteller’s tent.

Wasn’t that just my luck?

Author’s Note RE: the Mr. Lucky Trilogy & Dark Matter Heart: The Mr. Lucky Trilogy is a Dark Matter Heart World Expander. The events in this series take place in the same world, with the same paranormal concepts and rules as Dark Matter Heart, but with all new characters and adventures. Opportunity abounds for crossover stories bringing all the characters together.

It is not necessary to read Dark Matter Heart to enjoy the Mr. Lucky Trilogy, but I think you’ll like it.
