GENRE: Sci-fi Romance

BLURB:

The Peacekeeper.

When his shy neighbor knocked on his apartment door, Phate’s mission to stay off the humans’ radar until the rescue team arrived changed in a blink of an eye. He not only wants to tell this delectable human about alien existence, but he also wants to take her back to Thelli with him.

Getting to know her was proving difficult when his new mission involves joining a dating app in an effort to see if humans are compatible enough to join the Intergalactic Dating Agency.

The Workaholic.

Tasha worked hard building her small business on Main Street and didn’t have time for distractions. With a fire-cracker best friend and three new mysterious neighbors, Tasha was finding herself thinking of something other than her boutique for a change. But fate? Fate has a way of intervening, and she finds out the hard way that she can’t run or hide from her feelings, especially when distraction as fine as Phate lives right next door.

EXCERPT

 Would it be too much to ask to slip inside her apartment without having to run smack dab into Phate unfolding his massive body from a cab?

Yes. Because fate seemed to be playing a cruel trick on her. Both versions.

At seeing him exiting the cab, Tasha did what anyone who had a crush on their sexy as hell neighbor would do. She cursed under her breath, put her head down and hurried up the front steps, trying to make it to the apartment building door while frantically hoping he didn’t notice her.

“Tasha!” Phate called out just as her hand reached the door.

Again. Fate was cruel. Oh, so very cruel.

Tasha could pretend not to hear him and run inside, but that would make her look…crazy, weird, scared? All of the above. Her heart pounded against her ribs. She closed her eyes and tried to rein in her panic.

One. Two. Three.

Tasha swallowed. There was no need to behave this way.

Get it together.

She took a deep and steadying breath and turned to greet him with a fake smile plastered across her face. “Heeeyyyy, you.”

He had on clothes that matched this time—somewhat. She wasn’t quite sure if purple and orange normally went together, but on him it looked as if a professional had styled him. He could never walk a runway. His build was too big and bulky, and his gait was more predatory than model-isk. And she loved it. All of it. The entire package.

He walked toward her; brow crinkled. “Phate. My name is Phate.”

Eyes up, don’t look at his powerful legs. “I know. I was just…”

What? Was caught off guard by how fine he looked and couldn’t get her hormones in check to act sane for two seconds while in his presence?

“Here, let me get this. I’m supposed to open doors for females.”

He stepped around her to open the door, brushing his body slightly against hers and giving her a nose full of his scent. A deep wood smell tickled her nose and sent shivers down her spine, making her knees weak. If she wanted to look at his face, she would have to take a step back and crane her neck to see his eyes. He made her feel small and dainty and she liked it.

She plastered herself against the door, trying to avoid any more touching and went through. “Um, thank you. Men don’t open doors where you’re from?”

He entered behind her and tilted his head. The heat of him was at her back. “There’s no need to. All doors are automatic.”

She chuckled nervously as she made her way toward the elevator. “All doors are automatic? That’s a blanket statement.”

He stepped in line with her and shrugged. “They are.”

She pressed the “Up” button and willed the elevator to come as soon as possible.

“If there were manual doors, I don’t believe the females on my—where I’m from—would appreciate being coddled like they do here.”

The elevator dinged its arrival and opened. She stepped inside and he followed. Her heart thumped as soon as they were enclosed in the space together. His rich scent intensified.

Oh, God.

She pushed the fourth-floor button. “They’re progressive, are they?”

He tilted his head to the side, causing the blond curls to sway in movement. Her fingers longed to wrap around a lock and play with it. The elevator doors shut, and her stomach dipped as it rose.

“They’ve spent many years proving they’re just as capable as the males. They wouldn’t appreciate being treated any differently because of their gender.”

Damn. That sexy voice.

“So, they don’t want or rather, need the door opened for them? Do they like their chairs held out? Or what about the meals and dates? Do they pay for them too?”

Phate shrugged his massive shoulders. “We treat them as equals. Who pays with their credits isn’t really a factor.”

Tasha pulled her eyebrows together. “Credits?”

The elevator dinged and the doors opened.

“Money,” he added quickly.

She breezed through the door and made her way down their hall.

“Credits. Is that what money is called where you’re from?”

“Yes.”

“And exactly where are you from?” she pressed.

“Not here.”

She chuckled. “I gathered that much. Your accents gave it away. I can’t put my finger on it though. Maybe Greek?”

“Have you ever been to Greek?”

Tasha stopped at her door and frowned as she turned to face him. “Do you mean, have I ever been to Greece?”

His face was serious as he nodded. “Yes, that.”

The Game Warden's Mate by A.M. Griffin (VBB, excerpt, and GIVEAWAY) GFT. ADULT title

by
A.M. Griffin
ADULT title

The Hunt. As the new Game Warden, Xrez Ym’ihla brings patrons from across the galaxy to track prey in a game built to enslave the weak and mate the strong. The business is a long running family legacy and Xrez is determined to succeed as his father had before him. He hadn’t meant to let one human occupy his thoughts, mind, and body.

His lies may come back to haunt him, but if he reveals the truth, he’ll ruin his chance to capture the heart of the one he wants.

The Prey. Esme Valdez had her entire life planned from an early age. As a chemist, her life was average and mundane, just the way she liked it. Until the impossible happened. Never did she imagine being abducted by aliens and forced to participate in a survival of the fittest game called The Hunt. If she survives and makes it to the end, she’ll be freed. If not, she’ll be forced to mate the one who captures her.

Esme is determined to win at all costs, even if it means putting her trust in a sexy alien who taunts her in the most delectable way.

Their love was built on betrayal. Can she trust him with her heart and life?
******************

Excerpt

Xrez watched the hologram and vividly remembered how prey reacted during the introductory phase. It didn’t matter the species, at some point, they would go into survival mode and divide into the groups they thought would give them the best chance.

“One of them has a beast,” Xrez noted.

It was small, oddly shaped and quadrupedal. It kept close to the pale female, protectively. Its fur wasn’t much different than his hair, short, but where the beast’s fur appeared smooth, Xrez and other Dar’E had wiry, coarse hair.

“Oh, yes! This should prove interesting. We’ve never had one of those in The Hunt before. The human called it a dog. The universal translator has input it as a companion, animal, protector.”

When the female got up to walk across the camp, the dog followed dutifully by her side. Xrez thought the description fit. As time went on the translator would input other information about the dog.

The female and her beast walked past another female. She appeared smaller than the first. She had skin as dark as the coarse hair covering his body. But his coloring was dull compared to the radiance of her. Her skin was vibrant under the sun, glowing with energy.

He’d only seen humans on holograms, none in the flesh. He’d always thought they appeared soft and mushy. Those weren’t attributes he wanted in a companion or mate. Instead of turning him off, this one made his belly stir.

Xrez reached out. His hand hovered over the hologram. Of course, he couldn’t feel anything, but that didn’t stop his longing. How would his fingers and claws feel against her skin? Would he scratch her?

He balled his fingers and brought back his hand. She was too soft for him to touch. Her skin was much too thin to withstand his claws. He would never be able to grip her butt or scrape his claws down her back while she rode him.

She lifted her hair off her neck and used her other hand to fan her back. Her hair was dark, almost black, but under the sun’s light, he saw shimmers of gold. It appeared soft and wavy, thick and long.

He decided then that he would run his fingers through it.

Dangerously Mine (Loving Dangerously series) by A.M. Griffin (spotlight, excerpts, and GIVEAWAY) ADULT titles

Sci-Fi Romance
ADULT titles

Loving Dangerously, Book #1
Sci-Fi Romance
Release Date: May 16, 2017

Synopsis:
The invasion changed everything. It took only weeks for aliens to destroy Earth and take prisoners. Now, fighting for their survival in the wilds of space, humans face a dazzling array of new experiences—and pleasures. Their lives may have changed but one thing remains the same—out there, somewhere in the galaxy, there's great love and passion for each of them if they’re brave enough to embrace their destiny.

Blurb:
After aliens invade and conquer Earth, Eva is transported to a distant slave-trading planet. Freedom and escape are her only priorities, but none of her martial arts training could have prepared her for enslavement to the warrior King Taio. Eva finds herself drawn to this sexy alien male who ignites her heart and body.

Taio is disgusted with the idea of owning a slave—until now. From the moment he sees her, he knows Eva is his for the taking. Torn between lust and duty, Taio discovers nothing will stop him from protecting his little warrior.

Publisher’s Note: This story was previously published by Ellora’s Cave under the title Dangerously Mine and has been revised for re-publish by the Author.

Reader Advisory: Eva’s sexual awakening includes brief voyeurism.

Excerpt:

Taio laughed and shook his head in disbelief. Learning about her savior’s culture had been a shock. Ship was very forthcoming with his information on Sonis, and especially how the males and females had traditional duties that Eva thought were straight out of the eighteen hundreds.

“It’s not unusual on my planet,” she said. “A male can teach a female how to fight or even a female can teach a male.”

He laughed harder. “There could never be such a thing on my world.”

She turned her head away. “I earned a black belt, first Dan in Kyokushin Karate. On Earth I’m considered to be a great fighter.”

“Your people did not fare well in the war against the Loconuist,” he pointed out.

She raised her chin. “We didn’t know how to fight them. We’d never encountered aliens before.”

“Then it is good that I will take care of you from now on,” he stated as if it were fact.

She glared at him. “I’m not like the women on your world. I don’t need taking care of.”

“You were captured by the Loconuist and the Tresdonians almost killed you.” Another factual statement.

She shrugged. “But they didn’t.”

He smirked. “Because I saved you.”

“Thanks, but I can take care of myself.”

“It doesn’t matter.” His eyes roamed down and up her body, finally resting on her breasts.

“You are my responsibility now,” he said in a low tone.

She fixed her squinting and cold eyes on him. “Ship told me those assholes on that planet gave me to you. That doesn’t mean that I belong to you or that I’m yours to protect. I’m not a slave. Not yours or anyone else’s.”

“If this arrangement doesn’t suit you, I could turn the vessel around and give you back to the Tresdonians.” He turned from her and put the heavy sword back on the wall rack.

Her heart began pounding in her chest. He wouldn’t...

“No. I’m not going back there.” She held her sword tightly in her grasp.

He turned to face her. “Then it’s agreed. You’re mine.” He stalked slowly toward her. He locked his eyes on hers.

She backed away from him, not because she was scared of what he might do, but because she was afraid of what she would let him do.

He took another step toward her. “You’ll need to get used to the idea.”

“I will never submit to you.” She didn’t know what surprised her more. That she’d finally found her voice or that she sounded convincing.

“We shall see, little one. We shall see.” Abruptly, Taio turned and walked from the room.

Excerpt

Holding tight to his wife’s hand, Kane pulled her along. She stumbled behind him, tripping on rubble, debris and concrete. He cast his eyes toward the large metallic spacecraft sitting low in the sky above New York City, blocking out the sun and moon, bathing everyone in perpetual darkness. He glanced at the watch on his wrist. It was three twenty-one p.m.

Anna’s pace slowed before stopping altogether. Leaning over, she took gulping breaths.

“Come on, baby,” he coaxed gently. “I know you’re tired but we have to keep moving.”

“I’m trying to.” Anna’s chest heaved in and out.

Her dirty-blonde bangs clung to her flushed forehead. The maternity jeans she had thrown on when they were forced to leave their brownstone were now torn and covered in dirt. Her too-small maternity shirt stretched over her pregnant abdomen. And after all this time, his clothes weren’t any better.

His gaze lingered on her fragile form. His heart lurched in his chest. The dark freckles dotting her face leaped out in contrast to her pale skin. She needed food, water and rest.
Now. He blew out a heavy sigh. That’s not going to happen anytime soon, he thought, taking in his surroundings.

Through the darkness, he caught a glimpse of his companions. The group of seventeen men, women and children continued forward on their pursuit across the city without even a backward glance to where he and Anna lagged behind, again. The group of survivors should’ve been able to cover more ground than they had. But their pace slowed considerably to account for Anna being eight-and-a-half-months pregnant. Thanks to the in vitro fertilization, she was pregnant with twins.

The delirious thought almost made him laugh out loud. They had spent nearly thirty thousand dollars to get pregnant and a few months later, hostile aliens had invaded Earth.

He tore his gaze away from the group and studied Anna. She propped herself against a broken street sign. She coughed as she breathed in the contaminants of the air.

A high pitched wheezing sound came from her lungs with every labored breath that she took. Sweat dripped from her forehead to her brow. One hand held the side of her head and the other rested on the side of her belly. Although she hadn't said anything, he could tell she was more swollen today than yesterday.

He placed a hand over her extended belly. “How are the babies?”

He didn’t know much but he did know the babies should have been moving under their touch. The lack of movement confirmed Anna couldn’t continue any longer. It was too risky.

“They’re fine,” she said between pants.

Not believing her, he shook his head. “We have to st—”

Anna cradled his chin, bringing his face to look at her. “Kane, I can do this.”

Although determination was written across her features, he didn’t think she could go on for a few more minutes let alone hours. Breaking eye contact, he worked the knapsack off her back. He slung it over his shoulder along with his and scooped her up into his arms, ignoring her protests. Her pregnant weight made his muscles flex tighter around her.

She stroked the side of his cheek. “Kane.”

He looked down into worried hazel eyes. “What?”

“You can't carry me forever.”

“Only for a little while. We need to keep moving, baby.”

She buried her head onto his chest. “I love you.”

“I love you too, always.”

She brought her head up to him again. A slight smile played on her lips. “Even though I’m chunky and fat?”

“You’re pregnant and healthy.” He followed the trail of the survivors. Their backs came in and out of view as the group traversed up and around large slabs of concrete that had once been paved city streets.

She gave his biceps a light pat. “Nice save, counselor,” she teased weakly.

“That’s me, Kane Epps, esquire. I can talk my way out of the hairiest of situations.”

Her playfulness slowly disappeared as she scanned the horizon. “I wish you could’ve negotiated us out of this one.”

Kane’s gaze followed hers, catching sight of the Statue of Liberty in the distant horizon, toppled on its side.

In less than a week of their arrival, the aliens had wreaked havoc on Earth. Crumbled buildings lay in heaps all around them. Alien weapons uprooted city streets. Alien bombs leveled countries. Alien technology disrupted communication, television, phones and radios. U.S. military forces were swatted down as though they were flies.

Now, three months later, humans scavenged for basic necessities.

“We’re going to be fine.” His voice came out tight and hard.

Anna rubbed his chest. “I know.” Her reassurance and faith in him sent waves of tenderness through his heart. “You’ll take care of me.”

Right. He would take care of her.

Two hours later, he began to stumble. When his knee dropped to the ground, he got up and gathered a protesting Anna back into his arms. His jeans no longer offered a buffer between his knees and the concrete, as evidenced by a bloody smear left as he’d stumbled to his feet. Each time he fell he had a harder time getting up and continuing.

His knee hit the ground again, landing on broken concrete. He let his head fall forward as he bit back a gasp of pain. A bead of sweat ran from his short, white-blond hair down the bridge of his nose, where it lingered before finally dripping to the ground. Closing his eyes, he willed the pain away, clasping Anna tight to him.

With renewed energy, Anna worked to pry his hands from her arms and legs in an effort to free herself. When he wouldn’t release her, she pleaded, “Honey. Let me go. I can walk now.”

“No. I can do this.” He fought the urge to look at her, fearing if he did she would see the pain that shone in his eyes.

“Kane. Look at me,” Anna pleaded softly. Reluctantly, he obeyed. “You need to let me walk.”

“You can't.”

“I have to.” She shook her head in determination. “I can't let you kill yourself. Let me go.”

“Never. I love you.”

Anna let out an irritated sigh. “I love you too, but so help me God, if you break a leg trying to carry me, I will kill you.”

His feisty pixie was back. Kane let her slide from his weary arms to her steady feet. He wanted to stay with the group. Safety in numbers sat better with him. But he also needed to rest and couldn’t risk losing his wife or babies. The pace the group had set was grueling.

It’s not as if the group would miss them or anything. The survivors would probably welcome losing the dead weight. It was Anna he feared wouldn’t take the news too lightly.

Prepared for a fight, he fixed his stare on her. “Baby, I think we need to find a place
to hide for the night.”

Her gaze went from him to the retreating group. “But...but what about them?”

“We’re going to go on our own.”

“Oh Kane.” Her lips began to tremble. Tears fell as he squeezed her hand in his. “We can’t get separated from another group. Let me at least try to walk.”

He kissed her dirty, pale cheeks. “No, baby. I won't risk it. You and the babies mean more to me than they do. We can hide in one of the abandoned houses.”

He pulled her in a tight embrace. He would do anything for her. Keeping her safe had become his number-one priority.

She shook her head almost hysterically. “That group we saw a week ago said the aliens are hunting humans and taking them away. I don’t want to get caught. What’ll happen to us? What if the aliens are using humans as sex slaves?” She inhaled sharply. “Or worse... What if they’re going to eat us? What if—”

“Don’t start that. Those people don’t know what’s going on any more than we do. We’ll stay hidden. Don’t worry. I’ll keep you safe.” He ran his hand across her brow, wiping the long bangs away from her red-rimmed eyes.

“What about the others?” she asked, wide-eyed. “Do you think we’ll be able to catch up with them tomorrow?” She grimaced and rubbed her belly again.

“Yeah, we can do that.” He had to make her believe the lie. Whatever the case, they
would never see them again.

It took more than an hour but they finally found a house safe enough to enter without the fear it would crumble around them. Although the modest brownstone leaned precariously on its side, it would do for the night.

Kane entered, kicking the debris out of his way, Anna’s limp hand planted firmly in his. The smell of mildew and decay overrode his senses. The dirt that caked the furniture told of its abandonment. Dust wafted through the air, stirring with each step they took. Her dainty hand that covered her nose and mouth did nothing to keep it from settling in her lungs. Anna coughed as he led her through to the living room.

“Here, sit down. I’m going to check the kitchen for food and bottled water.” He let her go, settling her in front of a loveseat, the only piece of furniture in the room that didn’t look as if it would break apart under her pregnant weight. “Don’t go anywhere.” He didn’t want her exploring before he could make sure the structure was safe.

He propped the two knapsacks next to her. His jangled and clanked as he set it down. Hers made a soft rustling noise. As alien bombs had rained from the sky and life as they knew was no more, he had grabbed supplies and tools needed for survival, while she had wasted precious time taking pictures out of frames and photo albums.

Anna’s warm smile was meant only for him as she eased onto the dirty loveseat, pulling the knapsacks closer to her. “You can't get rid of me that easily.”

He couldn’t help but return her smile. This was why he loved her. Even in this, she still had her sense of humor.

He strode purposely through the double swinging kitchen doors and headed straight to the cabinets. He wanted to let out a frustrated scream as he flung open each one. Empty. Every cabinet he opened, empty. He frantically scanned the room, locking on what he sought.

The pantry.

He made it to the door and swung it open. Empty.

Shit. Shit. Shit.

His knees buckled underneath his weight. He grabbed the doorframe with a shaky grip. Anna needed to eat. She was already too weak to go on.

His mind raced as perspiration formed across his brow.

Calm the fuck down.

He needed to stay in control or they were sure to die.

How long since she last ate? Last night? What about water? This morning? Or was it
yesterday morning? Shit.

He gripped the doorframe harder. There was something about the rule of three. What was it? Humans can live for three weeks without food, three days without water and three minutes without air. Past three and you’re dead. What about pregnant women?

Whiz, boom!

A high-pitched screeching cut through the air outside. The house shook and rumbled as it was hit. Kane watched in slow motion as the appliances on the countertop jostled and fell over. Seconds slowly ticked by as a glass coffeepot hit the floor, shattering into a million pieces on impact. A large mixer bowl fell to its side and rolled across the countertop. Kane’s heart stopped.

They’re here.

“Kane! What’s happening?” Anna shrieked from the other room.

Snapping back to reality, he jerked upright. “Anna! We have to get out of here now! The house is falling apart.” He bolted into the kitchen, pushing a dinette table out of the way and jumping over the chairs.

“I’m afraid.”

He found Anna curled against the cushions, as if sinking into them would save her from the attack.

Whiz, boom!

A loud noise slammed across his brain. His hands flew to his ears and his jaw tensed shut. The house splintered and creaked around them. It could fall at any moment.

A cloud of dust crept ominously through the air, emerging from the back rooms, heading straight to them. Anna’s coughing racked her body as the heavy cloud billowed through the hall to the living room.

“Come on, baby. We have to get moving. Now!” Dust mixed with something acidic burned his throat with each breath he took.

He tried pulling her from the couch. She stayed planted in her seat. Her dazed eyes darted from side to side. She wouldn’t budge.

“We have to hurry before the house collapses!” He tried to get through to her.

After one blink, then two, she finally focused on him, put her feet on the floor and leaned forward. He pulled both of her hands, lifting her off the couch. Anna stumbled to stand.

“Our bags.” Tugging away from his grasp, she reached for them.

“Leave them!”

With a shake of her head, she scrambled to retrieve the bags. Kane snatched them out of her grasp and pulled her behind him. No more wasting time, they needed to get out of this death trap.

He stopped short at the door. His hand froze on the doorknob.

This is exactly what these bastards want.

Ignoring the heavy beating of his heart, the heavy pants from his lungs...he listened. Anna’s breaths were harder and heavier than his. Beside that...silence. He strained his ears to listen for any whizzing sounds, the telltale sign of a spacecraft above.

“Did they leave?” Anna asked in a hope-filled whisper from behind his shoulder.

“I’m not certain.”

He dared not move. They could still be out there, waiting.

“I think they’re gone. I don’t hear anything.” Relief was apparent in her voice as she
stepped away from him. He watched her ease onto one of the broken stairs. “My
stomach is hurting.” She lay back on her elbows, rubbing her oversized belly.

“Stay put. Try to stay calm. Once I know for sure that they’re gone, I’ll go out and find you some food and water.” He peered through the peephole of the door. Where are those bastards?

“I don’t want you to leave me here alone. What if they come back?”

“You need water.” He gave her a reassuring half-smile before turning to the peephole. “Plus, you’re not getting rid of me that ea—”

A roar deafened his ears. Wood, metal and plaster erupted through the air. Direct hit.

Pain shot through him as debris rained down. His hands flew up to protect his face. He dropped to the floor, rolling to a fetal position. The house creaked and rocked
around him.

He strained to open his eyes. Dust settled in them and burned. He snapped them shut.

“Anna!”

No answer. A dull ache thrummed in his ears.

Inhaling a lung full of dust, Kane coughed. “Anna! Come to me.” He threw out his
hand, grasping at air. “We have to get out of here!”

Nothing.

He forced his eyes open. A cloud of dust obstructed his vision. The outline of the caved-in roof was the first thing he saw. He willed himself to a standing position and stumbled forward with outstretched arms. If he found the stairs he would find Anna.

“Anna! Anna! Answer me!”

His shoe brushed against something soft. Anna? His heart dropped to his stomach. Where would he find a doctor? What if she needed medical help? He grabbed at it.

An arm.
Anna.

Dropping to his knees, he frantically pushed the wood planks and shingles from her body, throwing debris in every direction.
Anna, please baby, be okay.

He pushed a piece of drywall off of her. His gaze settled on the broken body lying
sprawled at an odd angle. “Nooooo!” He gathered the remains of his wife’s charred, limp body. “
Please God!  No!”

California Readin' and Romance Slam Jam 2017

This was a busy week for authors and readers in the Los Angeles and Orange County area!

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with authors A.M. Griffin and Eve Vaughn (and unfortunately learned I am not keeping up with what is going on at the Beverly Center--there are NO eating places there right now!)

(ADULT titles)

Then I attended California Readin' and had the chance to sit at a table with authors Nancy Sartor and Susan Mac Nicol

Both of these wonderful ladies traveled a considerable distance to attend this conference (Susan is from the U.K. and Nancy is from Tennessee)

I was able to get a few pictures of several authors but sadly I didn't win one of the fabulous baskets that were raffled off. Thanks to the effervescent Barbara Vey, this was a fantastic way for authors and readers to interact! I think there were a few hiccups that will undoubtedly be worked out the next time, and if you ever have the chance to attend one of these, do your best to come...they are loads of fun!

Dark Wolf Enterprises by A.M. Griffin ADULT title (SBB, excerpt, GIVEAWAY and review) GFT

Happy New Year's Eve to everyone!   May your new year be full of fantastic books to read!

Dark Wolf Enterprises is an ADULT title

by A.M. Griffin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
The big break Trudy Hollander’s small accounting firm needs has finally arrived, but unfortunately it comes with murder, mayhem and Kristof Farkas, a man she just can’t seem to resist. Even worse, Kristof is the CFO of Dark Wolf Enterprises—the one person who can pull the plug on the job that will take her company to the next level.
And then there are the assassins who can jump from three stories up and still be able to run away…
Kristof has no intention of giving in to his inner wolf and claiming Trudy. She’s human. Too fragile to withstand being a shifter’s mate. But the need to protect her is stronger than his resolve, and his desire is more powerful yet. He’ll fight with everything he has to keep her safe, both from those who would hurt her, and from himself.
Kristof is some kind of freak and he’s being attacked by wolves. She was god knows where with god knows who.
She could be killed out here and no one would know how to find her body.
Her gaze shifted to the cockpit door. They could kill her.
Flare gun.
She scrambled to the back of the plane and flung open the closet door. On the top shelf was the metal box Kristof had told her about. Grabbing it, she pulled the box down. The handle slipped in her sweaty palms and hit the floor with a crash. The contents spilled at her feet.
She spotted the flare gun immediately. Grabbing it, she ran back to her seat by the window and aimed the gun at the cockpit door.
While she waited for the pilots to come out, she continued to watch the fighting below. One of the wolves was down, leaving Kristof to fight the other two. She peered at the cockpit door. Still shut. Then back to Kristof. One of the others wolves was now limping badly.
Kristof snarled and grabbed the uninjured wolf by the neck and shook him. The wolf went limp and appeared to be more like a rag doll than anything else. Kristof stopped and opened his mouth. The wolf he held there fell to the ground in a lump. The only wolf left stood his ground. Both he and Kristof growled and circled each other until, finally, the injured wolf seemed to realize this was a losing fight and scampered off into the darkness.
Standing alone, Kristof let out a long howl at the night.
Trudy pressed her face to the glass and looked left to right, trying to see if she spotted any more of the other wolves.
Kristof ran off, to where she couldn’t see.
He’s leaving me.
The thought ripped through her mind. Then an instant later, another thought eased the first.
He’d never leave me. I belong to him.
She’d no time to pick apart the last thought because, on the next blink, Kristof—the wolf—was standing outside of her window—watching her.
She knew it was him and not some other wolf, she felt he was hers. Their eyes locked. A part of her wanted to shrink away under his stare, but the other…wanted to claim him.
The cockpit door creaked open and the pilot peered at her. Yelping she raised her gun and aimed. Screaming, he shut the door before she could fire off a shot.
“Come out here and I’ll kill you! Do you see what happened to your buddies?” Her hands shook as she aimed the gun.
She was going to die. There was a man-wolf killer outside and a pilot-kidnapper in here.
Another glance outside and Kristof stood, as a man, watching her. A naked man. A wonderfully naked man.
She shook her head.
Wolf-beast.
“Trudy. Open the hatch. I’m coming back up,” He yelled out to her.”
Was she supposed to let him back in? He hadn’t said that.
She chewed on her lower lip, waiting for an answer she couldn’t think of. If she opened the door would he attack her? Was he a rabid beast who couldn’t control himself?
She shook her head. “No. You said not to open the hatch.”
“I meant don’t open the hatch for them.”
“Since I know your secret are you going to kill me now?”
“Don’t be silly. It’s cold out here. Open the hatch.”
Should she let him back in?
“Are the pilots still alive?” he asked.
Her gaze shot back to the cockpit. “Yes. But not for long,” she yelled, loud enough for the pilots to hear.
“I’m naked and it’s about thirty degrees out here. Can you please let me in?”
“Wh-what about your super-human heating abilities? Aren’t you supposed to be so hot that’d you’d melt snow?”
He cocked his head to the side. “This is not a young adult story. I’m freezing my ass off.”
“If he kills me I’m going to be so pissed,” she mumbled to herself.
REVIEW
(I had the pleasure of reading this novella as part of the "Brought to His Knees Anthology)
4 out of 5 stars
“Dark Wolf Enterprises” by A.M. Griffin introduces accountant Trudy Hollander to an entirely different world when what she thinks is her big break embroils her in an embezzling issue that involves one of three brothers who run a very successful family-owned company.  Kristof Farkas is impressed by the woman who is savvy enough to ferret out the discrepancies in his company’s books but he refuses to listen to his wolf who is determined to keep the feisty female in their life.  They have to stay alive long enough to work out their relationship and find the culprit.
This is a great introduction to a shifter family that is coexisting successfully with humans and I always enjoy stories that explore the challenge of introducing a human to the shifter world.  The ending is a little abrupt and leaves room for a continued exploration of the mystery that brings the main characters together but there is a nice introduction to the various members of the Farkas family and hopefully each of the siblings will get his or her time in the spotlight. A nice beginning to the series.
