Impact by Cassandra Carr is the start of her fantastic adult 'Buckin' Bull Riders' series which centers on a Dom who is trying to keep his BDSM proclivities discreet until a sexy novice submissive overwhelms his intentions.  Whew!  Definitely a read to warm up a cold day.  I will get a review written up this weekend.

Forbidden by Cheyenne McCray is the first book in her sizzling 'Seraphine Chronicles' which is an erotic paranormal series being re-released with beautiful new covers.  I have not had the pleasure of reading these before and am delighted to have the opportunity to read them.  Yum!

I have never visited the chats at RCJR so I don't know how they work but I will give advice about participating in the Writerspace chat.  It probably will be on protocol which means that they don't want everyone bombarding the poor author with lots of questions at once...so....WAIT your turn!  Type a question mark (?) and wait for the moderator (Lea or PaulaL or BadBarb) to call on you.  I usually type a '?' and then start typing my question WITHOUT hitting 'send' until I am called upon.  That way, you can check for typos and you don't make everyone wait while you type your question.  If you want to save a copy of the transcript of the chat there is a little icon to the far right at the bottom just above where you type your questions (next to the icons for bold, underline, etc.), click on it and it will open an new screen with everything that has been said from the time you entered the chatroom.  Click on it at various times throughout the chat to make sure you get what is being said most recently.  Hope to see you there!

Wicked All the Way       

by Shayla Black is a delightful novella which revisits her 'Wicked Lovers' series but focuses on a different generation, i.e. Caleb Edgington and Carlotta Buckley, whose children have found love and passion with each other.  Caleb has nobly refrained from pressuring Carlotta who is living vicariously through her daughter but not looking for her own happiness.  A delightful read.  My Amazon review is at this link.


One Dom to Love        
is an erotic title by Shayla Black, Jenna Jacob and Isabella LaPearl.  It is filled with very sensual scenes centered around the BDSM lifestyle and features an intense tug of war between two very opinionated Doms over a submissive who has been part of their lives on a different level for several years.  This story is undeniably spicy but made me uncomfortable and I wasn't thrilled about the actions of either male, but particularly disliked the description of the physical marking performed on the heroine and her unquestioned embracing of all of the acts perpetrated on her.  I am normally a very big fan of this author but this particular tale just wasn't to my taste and I thought the heroine was too erratic in her behavior, flipping between outright defiance and malleability and I found certain scenes to be a little hard to believe in terms of the degree of discomfort which was acceptable (or blithely ignored).  My Goodreads review is at this link.


Mini-rant...you have been warned....

Ok...I have been REALLY swamped lately (4 edits, about 650 pages!) and I also have 5 reviews that are due today but they were all yummy reads so it won't be as hard to write up as it is when I don't like them.  I've also read a couple of titles recently that I was really disappointed in because of the number of errors in them and I am disappointed in the lack of editing that they display.  I think that if publishers expect us to pay our hard-earned money for these works...they should make sure that a polished product is released.  I'm fortunate because these titles were either won by me or offered to me for review so I didn't spend anything on them but I still am disappointed that they are being offered to unsuspecting readers.  I hope that all of you who are noticing an excess of typos or editing errors take the time to either send a polite note to the publisher or the author because I think that the standards are steadily eroding because not enough people complain.  I admit that I am human and undoubtedly leave errors behind when I proofread and edit but I think that we still should all strive to improve and when our mistakes are pointed out to us, it makes us more aware.  My unsolicited opinion for the day, lol.

Learning tools through the library

I am always amazed by what is available through my local county library.  I treasure libraries since they have provided me with many an hour of entertainment, especially as a child when I could not afford to purchase books.  They help me keep my current book budget down to a dull roar since I am fortunate to have two different library systems to draw from (and yes, both library cards get a workout).

I have mentioned before that there are several resources that I take advantage of through the internet and my county library card number, one of which is called Freegal which allows me to download three songs per week without any piracy concerns.  There is quite a wide range of things available, including a profanity laden but hilarious recording of Robin Williams discussing the planning that went into the formation of the human body called Intelligent Design as well as the ethereal songs recorded by young Jackie Evancho and several works by some of the smooth jazz artists that I like.  I am ashamed to admit that I haven't kept up with the foreign language lessons that I started through Mango but intend to get back to them one of these days and lately have discovered that there is another educational tool called 'Ed2go'.  I am intrigued because there are a breadth of classes that can be attended at one's convenience online and I was delighted to discover that some of them address writing and publishing so I am taking a beginning class in editing.  It's amazing what is out there for free and I urge those of you with local county libraries to look into what they can offer access to, it is pretty amazing.

Lauren Dane's poignant tale Never Enough which gives Adrian Brown's love story, the entertaining anthology Hex Appeal which includes great stories by Jim Butcher, Rachel Caine, P.N. Elrod and husband and wife team Ilona Andrews , as well as the delightfully spicy Hot in Handcuffs which has tales by three of my favorite authors in their field, Shayla Black, Sylvia Day and Shiloh Walker!  Unfortunately, I have been so busy reading that I haven't written up the reviews so I will have to rectify that.  Support your local library (I tend to donate a lot of my review books to one of my local libraries but they also can use volunteers to help shelve or perform other tasks).  My sincere thanks to the dozens of authors at RWA who cheerfully donated books to help supplement the collection at the Wanda Kirk Library in Rosamond!
