My Past, Your Future by Gabbi Grey (Spotlight, excerpt and GIVEAWAY) RBC ADULT title

My Past, Your Future

by

Gabbi Grey

Callum MacLaren, a professor from Scotland, visits Willow Springs, Vermont during the Winter Solstice to study and explore the rich history of St. Joseph's Cemetery. His encounter with a sexy soldier in a tattered Civil War uniform is a captivating puzzle, and the more he learns, the deeper his attraction.

A hundred and fifty years ago, Elijah Freeman was killed during the Second Battle of Fort Wagner and woke up in Willow Springs, the only home he'd known. Alone, he roams the town, unable to leave or interact with a single soul until an intriguing Scot addresses him. Even stranger, the man can see him, hear him, and touch him--a sizzling caress that leaves Elijah aching for more.

But will Elijah return to his ghostly form when the magic of the solstice fades, or is Callum's love enough to keep him in the land of the living?

Genre: M/M Paranormal Erotic Romance

Excerpt:

“I’m not sure I have many answers.” And Elijah wasn’t. He’d figured a few things out over the years, but much of it was contradictory and nonsensical. Still, he relaxed a little, no longer on edge.

“Well, let’s start with you being able to touch people and them able to touch you.” As if experimentally, he placed his hand on Elijah’s. “You’re cold. Are you always cold, or is it the weather?”

Elijah cleared his throat. This was the first human touch he’d had in years, and it affected him more than he’d ever imagined. Not that he’d spent a lot of time wondering because he’d assumed it’d never happen. Should he have tried earlier, or was it, as he suspected, only this man?

Please don’t let go of my hand.

Cautiously, he curled his fingers, holding on tighter.

Callum reciprocated.

“As for temperature. I don’t understand. I don’t feel cold now, and I don’t feel hot in the summer. And summers around here can be brutal, despite how far north we are.”

Callum nodded. “Edinburgh, where I’m from, can get warm in the summer. But we’re closer to the northern point of the country, so it’s temperate as opposed to oppressive.”

His thumb caressed the juncture where Elijah’s thumb met his finger, and little zings shot through him. Like the sound he associated with the electric lights when they turned on at dusk. Of course, the whole concept of electricity was beyond him.

Tracefinder: Contact and Tracefinder: Changes by Kaje Harper (reviews) ADULT titles

Kaje Harper is one of my favorite authors in the m/m genre and she has just released the second book in the 'Tracefinder' series

These are ADULT titles

Tracefinder: Contact

Blurb:

What could an undercover cop and a drug lord’s pet psychic have in common?

Brian Kerr has spent years hiding behind a facade of mental slowness. His brother and sister got all three of them off the streets and into a cushy life, under the protection of a dangerous criminal. But to keep that safety, Brian has to use his Finding talent to track down the boss’s enemies. Although he pretends not to know what he’s really doing, each Find takes its toll, and he’s trapped in a life he hates, losing touch with his true self.

Nick Rugo’s job is to protect and serve the people of Minneapolis as an undercover cop. He isn’t closeted, but he isn’t out at work, and there’s a wild, angry side to him that he’s managed to keep hidden until now. When he’s assigned to bring Brian’s boss to justice, he intends to use anything and anyone it takes to do that.

Nick initially sees Brian as a pawn to be played in his case, but he keeps getting glimpses of a different man behind the slow, simpleminded mask. As the two men get to know each other, it becomes clear they share secrets, some of which might get them both killed.

My review:

4 out of 5 stars

Tracefinder: Contact by Kaje Harper is a m/m paranormal suspense tale that centers around undercover cop Nick Rugo who endeavors to channel his aggressive tendencies into a successful assignment to bring down a drug lord. His unexpected connection with an unusual and apparently handicapped Brian Kerr forces Nick to take a good look at his ethics and morals as well as exposes him to unbelievable situations, some of which may change his life in ways he never dreamed of—not even in his worse nightmares.

I am usually a very big fan of this author but this story was frustrating to me, and I had to walk away from it for a few months before rereading it and learning to accept that I just wasn’t going to connect well with most of the characters. The story is vivid and it is a tribute to the author’s usual dexterity at characterization that the players are realistic to me, but, wow, I was conflicted about most of them because there are so many shades of gray in this story. Even worse, it ended with so many dangling threads that I was really frustrated. That being said, I was still fascinated.

I love the idea of psychic phenomena, and the price being paid for the use of Brian’s powers and his frustration and coping mechanisms kept me intrigued by him. I timed it perfectly because fortuitously, I was able to read the sequel right after this and it helped assuage SOME of my frustration, even as I continued to be unwillingly drawn to these characters who make choices that are frequently unpalatable to me, no matter how much I can understand why or how they have reached this point in their lives.  So…I waffled and waffled about my rating, but ultimately I have to say I did like the story but didn’t like the ending…but that’s because I am a VERY impatient reader and I like things tied up nicely when I finish. This story doesn’t do that, but it is still well worth reading, especially since the next book is out now…although, be warned, it’s not going to tie everything up in a nice bow either, lol.

Tracefinder: Changes

Blurb: Brian can Find a lost child or a wanted criminal, but when his secret gets out, even Nick’s skills and connections may not be enough to keep them safe.

Brian Kerr is now free of his dangerous boss and his domineering brother. He’s eager to start using his psychic Finding talent to help people, if he can figure out how to do that safely. His dyslexia, and his tendency to act simpleminded under stress, make building his new life a daunting challenge. And while his not-quite-boyfriend, Nick, is willing to support him, in bed and out of it, Brian doesn’t want to lean on Nick. If their relationship is going anywhere, he has to be a full partner and handle his own problems.

Nick Rugo’s walking a tightrope instead of settling into the ordinary cop’s life he’d hoped for. He’s hiding too many things from too many people. He has told professional and unprofessional lies that will come back to haunt him. Now, with Brian determined to start Finding again, he’s not sure he can protect the man he cares for. If all that wasn’t enough to make him start punching walls, he also has a suspicion that Brian’s brother Damon and sister Lori may be out there, lurking, ready to complicate their lives.

My review:

4 out of 5 stars

Tracefinder: Changes continues the story started in “Tracefinder: Contact”, following the adventures of dyslexic psychic Brian Kerr as he struggles to integrate into a life that is totally unfamiliar to him. Nick Rugo has fought to reconcile his duties as a cop with his desire to protect and encourage the remarkable young man he’s come to know and care for. Unfortunately, external forces are being brought to bear, which will force each man to make choices that will alter their lives forever.

This m/m paranormal suspense story provides a glimpse of the slippery slope being experienced by a former undercover cop who is determined to assist Brian in his quest to find a way to survive. Brian’s gift and naivete, plus the ongoing police hunt for his brother, make it challenging for Nick to find a way to follow his heart yet remain true to the oath he has sworn as a police officer. The adept way the author depicts the triumphs and setbacks that plague this complex couple kept me engrossed in their struggle, yet wincing at the fallout that is inevitable. I am reluctantly drawn to follow their struggle and uncomfortable at the depths of immoral behavior that seem to be an inevitable outcome of dealing with the dysfunctional Kerr family.  There are ongoing threads that are still not tied off, and one should be warned that there is graphic violence, but there are also wonderfully sweet and sexy interludes to balance. I think this would be a tough story to appreciate if you haven’t read the first in the series and I am impatient to see how things will turn out, so I hope the author is quick to write a sequel!

Bleeding Heart by Melissa Graves ADULT title (spotlight, excerpt, review and GIVEAWAY) GFT

I asked Melissa Graves the following question and she was gracious enough to answer:

What was the most difficult thing to overcome on your path to becoming a published author and how did you conquer it?

Melissa's answer:

I think what stops people from getting publish is simply the assumption that it's an impossible task to begin with.  Even people who have backgrounds and degrees in writing often don't know where to start, and it isn't as if you're handed a manual when you begin writing that explains what to do once you think you've got something that you want to share.  It becomes almost an assumption after a while—"of course, not me".

The question is: why not you?

I was absolutely one of those people.  I wrote and wrote and wrote, sometimes for no one but myself, sometimes for fandoms, sometimes for friends, and every time that I sat back and looked at that fifty thousand word story I would tell myself, "No one would understand this, or find it interesting" or "It's such an unpopular genre—who would care?" or "It's not profound enough" or "It's just not good enough".

Over time, though, I began to realize that maybe, just maybe, I was sabotaging my own efforts.  I knew that my stories entertained people, and that my friends and family never let up reminding me of that fact.  I began to receive comments on the stories that I wrote from people everywhere saying the same thing: "have you ever thought of being published?".

So I just kept writing.  The most important thing for me was making the decision to keep writing, no matter what the outcome; to keep creating, even when it felt ridiculous, and even when I thought that no one but myself would laugh or cry or care about my characters or stories.   I refused to allow my doubts to influence what I wrote or how often I wrote.  I wrote for myself, because it made me happy.

Eventually, an opportunity presented itself—I took it, even though I was terrified, and I haven't regretted it since—but I never would have even been positioned to cross paths with that opportunity if I hadn't made the decision to write, and continue writing.

If you love and believe in what you have to offer, others will eventually love and believe in it, too.

Bleeding Heart
is an ADULT title

by Melissa Graves

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
While the public struggles to live side-by-side with vampires, medical student Brian Preston has dedicated himself to their care and study by working in a government-run clinic that monitors and feeds the resident vampire population. He has learned to expect the unexpected in his job, but his life takes a surprise turn late one night when a young, struggling vampire named Kyle stumbles into his clinic and his heart.
 As they draw closer, can Brian come to grips with loving the elusive vampire, and can Kyle find the strength to share the secret that can separate them forever?
Bleeding Heart is the story of love, blood, political intrigue and the secrets that can spell the difference between life and death.
Excerpt
"I know," Kyle says apologetically. "I can't help it." He swallows. "I mean, it only happens when I—when—I get excited. Sorry. Just, missed you."
"You—you can." Heat pounds in Brian's cheeks.
Kyle goes still, panting against his skin. "W-what?"
"You can, if you want," Brian repeats. His body is aching all of the sudden, for something new, for something more, for something that they haven't done yet. He can feel it, simply at the idea—it has been since they started kissing, of course, but now it's fully awake and invested in the proceedings—against the front of his jeans. "You can."
"Have you ever—"
"No," Brian answers. It's impossible to think clearly with Kyle holding him against the door, with Kyle's head bent over his neck like that. He's so hard that his jeans are starting to hurt; the angle at which he's risen against them is uncomfortable, but he can't move. "Please." The anticipation is like ants beneath his skin, crawling and crawling and crawling. "Please."
Kyle kisses the half-numbed skin just inches off of Brian's neck. His fangs are fully distended now and Brian can feel them, smooth and hard as they brush his skin.
The need to feel the pain that he knows he'll feel, to feel opened, to feel his blood run past Kyle's eager lips is sudden and new. Kyle can and will drink from his body; Brian can let him do that, this is a thing that they can do together, and it is as exciting as it is frightening.
"You can," he repeats. He feels dizzy. "I want you to. Want to take care of you, please. Do it." His hands are shaking so hard that he can't even maintain a grip on Kyle's waist, but it doesn't matter; Kyle is supporting him.
"God," Kyle breathes, shaking, his lips damp as they pass over Brian's shoulder again and again. "Ever since you—that night with the wine glass, I—god, I've dreamed of your blood so many times."
"Please," Brian hisses, arousal pounding through his body. "Do it. Do it."
MY REVIEW
4 stars
“Bleeding Heart” by Melissa Graves is an adult m/m paranormal novella that centers around a human medical student named Brian Preston who forms an unanticipated connection with a desperate vampire he meets at the blood service center where he works.  The young male who calls himself Kyle is fleeing a horrific experience and he serendipitously ends up at a site that caters to humans who want to experience vampire feedings.  The two slowly establish a connection that deepens as they explore a relationship but it is fraught with not only the complications attendant with being two males in a human-vampire relationship but the specter of Kyle’s past which may do more than just end the  blossoming romance before it can truly form, it may end someone’s existence.
This fascinating and evocative story is both frustrating and mesmerizing for me.  I thought it was a great storyline and it was delightful to watch the two main characters explore an intimate relationship that deepens gradually but I was disconcerted by the use of the present tense to tell the story and found it to be a bit jarring.  This story establishes a great framework with a complex system that is in place to deal with the needs of vampires and I think the author did a wonderful job of creating intriguing primary and secondary characters who all have their own stories to tell.  There are multiple threads that I would love to see developed in subsequent stories since this story provides a very entertaining sensual and suspenseful read and I would love to read more about this world.
Wolf in Gucci Loafers by Tara Lain (guest post, ADULT excerpt, GIVEAWAY and review)
Hi everyone! I’m so happy to be here celebrating the release of my new book, Wolf in Gucci Loafers
I’m Tara Lain and I write the Beautiful Boys of Romance. ELF suggested you might like to know why I write MM romance, so here goes. Back in 2010, I decided suddenly to write a romance novel. I’m a non-fiction writer in my day job, and the only thing I could ever imagine writing at night and on the weekend was romance! My first book idea centered around an older woman/younger man romance between a renowned geneticist and her younger research partner. Then I (accidentally) read my first MM romance novel -- Heaven by Jet Mykles. I loved it so much, I was instantly hooked and I added another man to my story. Just like that, I was a MM writer and I’ve never looked back.
Why was I captivated? In MM romance, there’s a lack of gender roles. In traditional MF romance, no matter how kickass the heroine is, she usually succumbs to a kick-assier hero. In MM, I can play around all I want with the dynamic between the men and let the play of dominance ebb and flow. Gay romance also comes with unique “wounds” for my heroes. They have a separation and “otherness” built-in, and have often had to go through experiences that make them survivors. Sadly, there isn’t much reaching for conflict and angst. It comes with the territory. I also think women love seeing into the emotional life of men. Peeking at the feelings that may play under the more unreadable surface. Because I believe in true love, I like nothing better than giving my guys their happy-ever-after. Oh and did I forget to mention that if one guy is hot, two are hotter? LOL.
Here’s a nibble from Wolf in Gucci Loafers showing some of this play of dominance between my men. Enjoy!
BLURB:
Socialite Lindsey Vanessen wants someone to love who will love him back—an impossibility for a gay, half-human, half-werewolf. Too aggressive for humans, too gay for wolves, and needing to protect the pack from human discovery, Lindsey tries to content himself with life as a successful businessman. But when someone starts kidnapping members of wealthy families, Lindsey meets tough cop Seth Zakowsy—the hunky embodiment of everything Lindsey wants but can't have.
Seth has never been attracted to flamboyant men. What would the guys in the department think of Lindsey? But intrigue turns to lust when he discovers Lindsey’s biting, snarling passion more than matches his dominant side. It might mean a chance at love for a cop in black leather and a wolf in Gucci loafers.
WOLF IN GUCCI LOAFERS
 by Tara Lain -- MM paranormal
ADULT Excerpt:
“Much as I love the opportunity, I don’t want to waste time driving.” He cocked a grin at Lindsey in the dark car.
“Don’t worry. You won’t. Drive.”
“Okay.” He hit the accelerator. Holy shit. Instant speed. No rumble, no roar, no lag or leaping ahead. Just zero to infinity with a touch.
“Wow. This is freaky!”
“Fun, isn’t it?”
“Give me directions.”
“Okay. Pull down your fly.
“What?” He glanced over, but Lindsey’s face was not smiling—intense, actually.
“You want directions? You got them. Pull out your cock!”
He swallowed but reached down and pulled the zipper on his very crowded trousers. This sounded promising.
“Get it out!”
“Okay, okay.” He reached in, grabbed his leaking rod, and pulled it from its prison. Man, just rubbing on his briefs was almost too much. That was one sensitive cock. The thing stuck up out of his fly like a puppet.
“Pull the balls out too. I like balls.”
Seth chuckled. “Your wish is my command.” He flopped his balls out of the fly. They were already so tight they barely bobbled.
“Very, very pretty. Definitely Connecticut’s finest. Can I lick them?”
“Shit, feel free.”
“Drive carefully. Keep your eyes on the road.” Lindsey laughed.
Only a small space and a brake lever separated the two seats. Lindsey leaned over, insinuated his head into Seth’s lap and breathed. Oh man, hot breath warmed the tip of his dick.
“He seems glad to see me.”
Seth could barely breathe, much less talk.
Lindsey swallowed the thing whole. Sheeee-it! Heat flashed through Seth’s balls and up his spine like he’d been shot. The car swerved. Damn. He gripped the wheel and slowed down.
Lindsey’s lips popped off. “This is your driver training course. All gay cops must drive while receiving head.” He shoved Seth’s dick back in his mouth and sucked.
Oh God. His hips bobbed. Fuck. Fuck. His knuckles on the wheel were white, but he didn’t want to give up and stop. The speed and sucking went together like peanut butter and jelly. The quiet in the car was punctuated by low growling sounds coming from the suckfest in his lap. What was up with the guy? But man, the sounds were right on the money. He felt like a fucking animal.
His balls tightened further and tingling tickled at the base of his spine. “Lindsey, I’m going to come. I gotta stop. I’ll wreck the car.”
My review for Wolf in Gucci Loafers
4 out of 5 stars
Wolf in Gucci Loafers by Tara Lain continues the saga of the subset of the wolf-shifter clan which is featured in the series, ‘Tales of the Harker Pack’. Lindsey Vanessen is the pampered scion of a wealthy family but, although he is open about his preference for males, he must keep his half-werewolf nature secret.  His propensity to protect those around him causes him to take on an alter-ego but he never imagined that this would put him into contact and conflict with his mate, policeman Seth Zakowsky, who definitely would frown at Lindsey’s actions, let alone the complications of having a relationship with a guy who gets furry and runs on four feet occasionally.
This delicious m/m erotic paranormal romance continues an intriguing series that focuses on the relatively rare gay wolf-shifters in a particular pack.  Another very unusual couple of males have to find a way to become comfortable with one another and fortunately have the sexy Alphanta Cole Harker, featured in the previous novella, to use as an example of the benefits of following one’s heart.  There is a fun depiction of a sport that I am completely unfamiliar with, polo, as well as the poignant introduction of another male who is searching for his identity.  This author’s characters are always such great examples of the importance of finding a way to be comfortable in your own skin and the combination of suspense and heat in this story is a wonderful combination.  I always look forward to discovering what new relationships Ms. Lain will reveal in another of her creative stories and hope that we get a chance to learn even more about this particular wolf pack and those who are connected to it.
The first in the series is The Pack or the Panther and my review is at this link.
The Beginning by Vicktor Alexander (excerpt and GIVEAWAY) ADULT title
It is my pleasure to have Vicktor Alexander, author of the The Beginning (Sons of Adam) (ADULT title) visiting the blog.  Isn't that a lovely cover?  And here's Vicktor...
What’s Next for the Sons of Adam Series?
I want to thank Elf for having me here on the last day of the tour.
Today I’m giving away a free ebook version of The Beginning (Sons of Adam) to one lucky person who comments and on Monday at The Purple Fantasy Den (http://www.authorvicktoralexander.com) I will announce the three Rafflecopter winners.
One of the things I love the most about writing a series is the secondary characters and knowing what is coming up next for them. So, now that Ronny and Cole’s story is released, whose story is next? Why, their friend Benjamin, of course! And today, on the last day of the tour, I am sharing with you a sneak peek into The New World Order, Benjamin’s story, Sons of Adam: 2.
Enjoy!
Book Two: The New World Order
Humans were the animals to be feared, especially when they stood in the middle of mall parking lots and shouted like they were insane.
Benjamin pulled into the parking lot of the mall in Gainesville where he, his best friend Cole, Cole's mate, Ronny, their babies and the other band of outcasts had settled and his eyes widened. Standing in the middle of the parking lot, tossing out armfuls of clothing, shoes, and CDs was the most gorgeous man he'd ever seen in his life. The man looked tiny from a distance and very androgynous. His raven black hair blew in the wind and he yelled obscenities so loud that Benjamin could hear them in his car with the windows rolled up. He couldn't help himself, a little bit of Cole's "cat curiosity" must have rubbed off on him. Putting his shopping on hold Benjamin pulled up in the parking spot next to the angry litterbug and rolled down his window.
"I'm pretty sure there's another way to return clothes if they don't fit," he drawled with a smile, his gaze gliding up over the pale, thin legs of the ranting human, over the tiny, cutoff shorts that hugged his round, pert ass, over the oversized t-shirt that hung on his small, torso, passed his full lips to his bright blue eyes. His cock twitched behind the zipper of his jeans and Benjamin stifled a groan.
The little spitfire froze and turned to glare at Benjamin. "Mind your own fucking business. This is how I'm kicking out my cheating ex-boyfriend. So unless you want me to turn my wrath on you, I'd suggest you leave."
Benjamin chuckled and inhaled. The sweetest, most intoxicating fragrance of moss, the salty air at a beach and male musk wafted up to his nose and punched him in the face.
Benjamin groaned. It figures, the crazy idiot was his mate.
****
Glen glared at the beautiful black man who stared at him without flinching, lust burning in his gaze and felt his body respond to it.
Down boy, he ordered his cock, we just found out that Corey's been cheating on us. So hold it together.
He watched as the stranger smiled at him before turning off the engine of his car and climbing out. Glen swallowed nervously and backed up until he bumped into the hood of his car when he saw how tall the other man was. Fear pulsed through his veins and the steady stream of voices, usually muted or silenced by his medication, the medication he hadn't taken that morning because he'd been too angry, began whispering and screaming that the stranger had been sent by Corey to harm him. Glen's hands trembled and he swallowed nervously.
"I can smell the fear on you," the stranger said. "I mean you no harm, shrimp. I promise. I really just wanted to introduce myself."
At the man's use of the word "shrimp," something Glen rationally knew was meant to be in a friendly manner and not in an insulting one, rage flooded his limbs, replacing the fear. He reacted without thinking and slapped the other man.
"I am no one's shrimp!" he hissed.
He froze instantly at the sound of the growl rumbling up from the stranger's chest and turning to jump into his car, Glen found himself pressed against the side of the vehicle, with the other man's much larger body against his back.
"You only get one of those in our lives, mate," he said softly.
Glen's eyebrows lifted at the other man's words and then like a bucket of cold water being thrown in his face, the emergency news reports that he and Corey had been watching and the internet articles that he'd been obsessively reading came flooding back to his mind. The term "mate" was used by them. Oh god. For once he wasn't being paranoid with no provocation. He was actually in danger. The man behind him was an abomination, a shifter. He was going to rape and kill Glen just like the news reports said they'd been doing to humans for centuries.
"I can smell your fear again. What has you afraid?" the man asked pressing his face into the side of Glen's neck.
Glen trembled fear wrestling with his lust for the gorgeous man. "Y-you're a sh-shifter."
