Right as Raine by Lucy Lennox (Release blitz, Excerpt, Review, and GIVEAWAY) GRR ADULT title

Right As Rain

ADULT title
by
Lucy Lennox

Aster Valley, Book 1

Tiller:

As the first openly gay professional football player, I can’t afford to make any mistakes, on or off the field. And the absolute biggest mistake I could make right now would be to fall for Mikey Vining, my best friend, employee and, more importantly, Coach’s baby boy. I might fantasize about Mikey at night-—every night—but actually touching him would be a serious personal foul.

And falling for him? That’s completely out of bounds.

Mikey:

I’ve learned my lesson about falling for one of my dad’s players. They’re a bunch of spoiled jocks with more muscles than brains. I’ve spent years learning to keep my eyes, and my hands, to myself. But resisting the temptation becomes nearly impossible when Tiller Raine and I end up together in a small cabin in a remote Colorado town.

Suddenly, there’s not much to do but look at each other. And talk. And hopefully, hopefully touch.

But what happens when our stay in Aster Valley is over and it’s time to return to the real world? Will Coach blow the whistle on our relationship? Or will Tiller admit there might actually be something he loves more than football after all?

WInning Her by Amber Malloy (Spotlight, excerpt, review, and GIVEAWAY) GFT ADULT title

Winning Her
Perfect Stats, Book 1

ADULT title
by
Amber Malloy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:   Sports Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

In the span of a year, Bane Carter acquired a new job, his brother’s four kids, a crappy nanny and, worst of all, his ex-wife. What could possibly go wrong?

Rule number one—never help an ingrate! Ignoring that hard-learned lesson put Dahl Baby Hamilton straight in the path of her famous ex. All she has to do is save her cousin’s failing restaurant, First Down, then she can go back to her fabulous life. But the main financier—Bane Carter, her ex—finds out and decides to make her life a living hell. Either she becomes the personal chef for an ailing house manager, one neglectful nanny and his four charges or risk having her reputation ruined. What’s an award-winning chef to do when her sexy ex-husband is blackmailing her?

The only black GM in the league, former football hero Bane Carter has his work cut out for him. It’s bad enough that he has to navigate around a dysfunctional team, but the recent passing of his brother and his wife have given him full guardianship of their kids. On top of all that, the last thing he needs is to bump into the woman who broke his heart at the worst possible time—the beginning of his career.

After two failed marriages, Bane realizes he has always been searching for the one who got away the first time. Of course, he doesn’t expect to find her in the same city, let alone cooking in his restaurant.

Reader advisory: This book contains references to a seriously mentally ill parent requiring a minor to take on a caring role. There are implied references to suicide via gunshot. There are also references to sex work, sexual harassment, sexual assault and rape, and scenes involving sexual harassment, violence and burglary.

EXCERPT

From the minute Dahl Hamilton had stepped into First Down’s kitchen, she’d worked nonstop. Tasked with fixing the failing restaurant, she’d barely seen the inside of her fabulous downtown loft, let alone her sweet, sweet bed. After having labored in the kitchen for more than two months, she was finally seeing all her hard work paying off.

The Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times, among other publications, had awarded First Down stellar reviews. Since the papers had hit the newsstands, customer attendance had shot up by more than fifty percent. If everything worked out, she could leave before autumn to work on more personal projects.

As Dahl topped off the dessert plate with her ‘D’ embellishment, the incessant ringing of someone’s cell caught her attention. That was a definite no-no in the kitchen. She requested the name of the offender.

“Marco!” the kitchen staff of twenty screamed in unison.

“You know the deal.” Before Dahl plated one perfect, mouth-watering slice of tiramisu cake, she pointed at the fine jar. The funds went toward their holiday festivities. At this rate, First Down’s Christmas party would be one for the history books.

“Smaller cuts,” she advised her assistant at the next station over. The restaurant had a full house, so the staff needed to move fast to keep up. During all the chaos, she found time to teach the newbies a trick or two. “Use your wrist. No one wants to bite a chunk of onion on their first date.”

Breaking her signature snicker-cookie in half, she placed it on top of the whipped cream ruffle.

“Hello, Dolly. I wanted to make changes to the menu.” The office manager, Beth, breezed into the kitchen. “Can we talk out back?”

She slapped the woman’s hand away before she could grab the leftover half of the cookie. “It’s just ‘Dahl’…and no.” She’d taken this consulting gig to help out her cousin. Nothing in the fine print read that she had to take orders from their idiot manager.

“We can’t go outside—or we can’t change the menu?” she asked in that snooty, superior tone.

Dahl handed the dessert off to the server and faced Beth. “To both… It’s no to both.”

“But Melanie told me to tell you—” Dahl held up her hand to kill the twit’s whining. She didn’t have the time. Instead, she went back to the orders. Soon the team would be able to catch their own mistakes. Busy checking the tickets against the meals, she missed the hush that fell over the kitchen. The usual clanging of pots and silly banter flipped into a strange vacuum of silence.

“Why are you here?” His deep, steely voice sent tingles up her spine. Dahl gazed at the six-foot-seven wall of well-dressed, muscled sexy.

Against her will, she smiled. “Hi,” she said.

Better looking than any action star, Bane’s good genes were wasted on football, in Dahl’s opinion. He should have gotten out years ago, but nope… Little boys grow up to be big men with dreams that become everyone else’s nightmares.

“Once again, why are you here?” Bane Carter asked. Her ex-husband smelled amazing.

“That’s a loaded question, Mr. Carter. I’m going to need an assist.”

“What?”

“Maybe rephrase…” She wiped her hands on her apron and leaned against the counter. “Are you asking why am I in Chicago, why am I in the restaurant or why am I still breathing? The throbbing vein in the middle of your forehead is screaming that it’s the latter.”

Stepping closer, he filled in the space between them. “Pick one through three,” he growled.

Unable to hide her nerves, she laughed. The attack of childish giggles overwhelmed her. It often happened at the most inopportune times and she couldn’t help it. His handsome face went blank before he abruptly turned and walked away. As general manager for the Mavericks football team, Bane probably didn’t get challenged very often—or most likely ever.

He turned and left, as quickly as he’d come. Dahl sighed. After all these years, she’d thought she was over him. “Okay, everyone, back to work!”

“Was that Bane Win—?”

“Yep,” she cut off her sous chef in an effort to deter any more questions.

“Did anyone notice how fast Bad-management Beth dipped out when he came in?”

The team laughed—but Dahl didn’t join them.

My review:

3.5 out of 5 stars

Winning Her by Amber Malloy is the first book in the ‘Perfect Stats’ series. This adult contemporary romance features Bane Carter, general manager of the Mavericks football team. Not only does he have to deal with the stress of butting heads with the various elements of his team, plus a failing restaurant he’s invested in, but tragedy has conferred four bereaved children into his household. Who knew that his ex-wife, chef Dahl Baby Hamilton, would be his salvation…if only he can convince her to stay.

I like that this story features two driven professionals who care about their careers yet still consider family important. The implications of being a person of color in today’s society are touched upon in various venues, although I wasn’t quite clear about whether that was one of the issues with respect to the high school student. The story flowed a bit jerkily for me, and I was often puzzled about the outcomes of some of the many issues that are touched upon, particularly with respect to folks who either don’t do their job or who betray their responsibilities. I wish some of the characters had a little more depth, but I hope that subsequent stories give a little more insight into them.

There are sizzling interludes between these two stubborn main characters, and I enjoyed the second-chance romance. Those who enjoy romances with elements of sports and cooking, plus the entertainment (and headache) that comes from interacting with kids, should consider giving this story a try.

What’s it about?

The Debt Collector

I pay my debts, and I expect others to.
I was raised in the slums of London, I knew nothing of privilege. My father was murdered when I was seventeen. Morty figured my father's passing meant I would automatically take on dad's debts. I refused.
And I paid for that refusal.
So did my sister.
So now I fight. All I know how to do is fight. The best cash is in the states, so that's where I am now. A big fish called Vito came along offering me a "favor" when I arrived.
Another debt.
I paid for that one too.
I knew Kyla Hensley would be trouble when I met her. But I wanted her. I could see through the falsehood of her wannabe-slutty clothes and her sexy legs. So I chased her.
Besides, trouble is my middle name.

Kyla Hensley

I was brought up in privilege, but I lacked everything else. My father is a business tycoon who buys and sells and doesn't care who gets rolled over in the process.
I never knew my mother, and all I have of her is a photo with a note scrawled on the back in French saying "I'm sorry." The only Female Figure I had growing up is my dad's wife who is a bleach blond with seven boob jobs. We never bonded.
I drink. I party. I meet guys.
But I wasn't always like that.
I've had a string of lovers in the last few years, the worst and most recent of which was Vince Somerset. My best friend Vera was dating a guy called Rory Cansoom who is the opposite of Vince in so many ways, and yet so the same.
She and I hit the road for the summer, getting away from the two college psychos and just trying to have some fun.
But there's a funny thing about trouble, the more you run from it, the more it finds you.
Which is when I met the Debt Collector.
It was only supposed to be sex. He made that clear. I made that clear.
That's all it was supposed to be.
I never expected to fall in love. I never expected to fall so deeply, madly, uncomfortably in love with a man who is wrong, so wrong for me.
And yet...so unbelievably right.

~Kyla~

I push my head back against the wall, not sure what’s coming, but not fighting it either.
“Who are you?” he repeats.
“I...I don’t know what you mean.”
“I see you at a bar in Texas, then I look for you all over Nashville. And suddenly you’re at my side in a hospital, following me into this warehouse. Who are you?”
“I didn’t follow you into the warehouse. You needed to pick up your truck, and you were stumbling.”
“So?”
“So I wanted to make sure you were OK.”
“And?”
And I want you to take my clothes off and I want us to live happily ever after. “That’s it.”
Logan grins, a deadly look for him with his dimples. “Don’t do that,” I say.
“What?”
“Smile.”
“Why not?”
Because you’re beautiful. “Just don’t.”

EXCERPT:

“Dance with me.” The low tone of his voice sent a shiver up her spine.

For what seemed like forever she couldn’t speak. She glanced at the couples swaying to the romantic music, and her heart started to pound at the thought of Tom holding her in his arms, of being that close to him after so many years.

“I don’t like to dance,” she said, finding her voice.

His eyes glinted with something resembling amusement. “That’s not how I remember it.”

She shrugged. “I don’t think it’s a good idea, that’s all.”

“Scared?”

Yes. “No.”

“Prove it.” He extended his hand. “Dance with me.”

“Fine,” she said. No one knew of her prior relationship with Tom, and she didn’t want them to. Causing a scene would only start rumors. And there were enough of those going around already.

With an exaggerated sigh, she returned her phone to the table and ignored his hand as she rose to her feet. He inclined his head, motioning her forward. Every nerve in her body tingled as he followed her to where the other couples had congregated.

The second she turned and faced him and he put his hand on her waist, her heart skipped a beat, then kicked into full-on pounding mode. He reached for her hand, gloving it in the warmth of his, and lifted it as he pulled her closer. Instinctively, she raised her free hand and rested it on his shoulder.

Looking past him as they began to dance, she held herself rigid and tried to distract herself from his scent—clean with a hint of soap. How was it possible he smelled exactly the same as he had seventeen years ago? And how was it possible she’d never forgotten it?

To her right, she glimpsed Kelly and Matt swaying to the music, gazing into each other’s eyes like no one else existed. And next to them, Angie and J.T. were just as engrossed in each other. All the love in the room was making her ill.

“Relax,” Tom said in a low voice.

Even in four-inch heels, she had to lean her head slightly back to meet his gaze. “I am relaxed.”

His lips quirked with amusement. “If this is relaxed I’d hate to see you when you’re tense.”

“If I’m tense it’s because you’re crossing boundaries you have no business crossing.”

“It’s just a dance, Katie.”

Annoyed, she leaned toward him and whispered, “Don’t call me that.” Too late, she realized her mistake. He slipped his hand to her back, anchoring her against him. Now her body was in direct contact with his, and it reacted accordingly. Slow heat unfurled in her stomach and her nipples pebbled against the soft, satiny fabric of her bra.

“I saw you with Logan.”

He had lowered his head, his lips grazing her earlobe. Pleasurable goose bumps rose on her skin. Her instincts had definitely been on point. This dance was a bad idea. A really bad idea.

“Are you sleeping with him?”

“That’s none of your business.”

“Does he know you like to be touched like this?” Tom traced a finger up her spine. She let out a soft gasp and trembled. He chuckled, his breath warming her ear. “And what about that sensitive spot between your neck and your collarbone? Does he know about that?”

“What Adam knows about me, or my body, is none of your concern.” She pulled back. Another bad idea. The heat smoldering in his eyes sent the blood rushing to her ears, and for a moment all she could hear was the pounding of her heart. Quickly, she regrouped. “And furthermore, my sex life is perfectly adequate. Thank you very much.”

“Well, that’s a damn shame.” His mouth tipped in a lazy, sexy smile as he settled his hand on the curve of her lower back. Every nerve ending in her body went on instant alert as the warmth of his fingers seemed to burn through the thin fabric of her dress, straight to her skin. “’Cause I sure as hell don’t recollect you ever settling for adequate.”

“We’re dropping this subject right now,” she said in a stern voice.

“Whatever you say, darlin’.”

Game for Tonight by Karen Erickson (spotlight, excerpt and GIVEAWAY) ADULT title

Game For Tonight
is an ADULT title

Blurb

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

She'll teach him the art of seduction one play at a time...

Publicist Aubrey Cooper never should have crossed the line. After all, pro football player Flynn Foley is her client. But something about this mouth-wateringly-hot, clean-cut athlete makes Aubrey imagine all kinds of X-rated fantasies. And it only takes one game-changing play―and one night―to turn the tables from strictly business to very, very personal…

Flynn has maintained a no-sexy-distractions policy for his entire pro career. Aubrey is exactly the kind of distraction he was trying to avoid, and she's the one he can't resist. When the media catches wind of their naughty little liaison, however, Aubrey's boss steps in to make them an official couple. What Flynn doesn't know is that Aubrey is forced to fake the relationship―or lose her job. Now Aubrey must hide the truth…even as she begins to fall for Flynn.

Excerpt:

Aubrey cracked open her eyes, studying him like he’d lost his mind. Which he sort of had—over her. He kissed her again before she could say a word, losing himself in her sweet lips, the soft little moans sounding low in her throat.

He liked sex. And he liked the woman in his arms plenty. So much, that he’d kept her at arm’s length for months for fear of falling hard for her and ruining his concentration. Besides, he wasn’t much of a rule breaker, damn it. If it was against company policy to date a fellow employee, then he wasn’t going to do it.

But screw it. He felt as if everything was uncertain right now, up in the air, unconfirmed. Walsh wasn’t talking—at least he wasn’t talking enough. The conversation they’d had before Aubrey had interrupted them had been full of nothing but a bunch of crap. Coach had acted downright evasive.

The vibe he was getting from his coach? He didn’t like it. At all.

He was tired of worrying about things that were out of his control. What was the big deal if he kissed Aubrey anyway? Maybe he could work her out of his system. Maybe kissing her wouldn’t be all that special and he could walk away from this.

Ha. Tell that to his overheated, turned-inside-out body. Flynn broke away from Aubrey’s lips to catch some air, though really, he wanted to look at her, memorize this moment when he’d first kissed Aubrey. Even in the dim light, he could see her lips were swollen, her cheeks flushed. She opened her eyes, the dazed look in them sending an arrow of arousal shooting straight through him, making his cock twitch. Pride suffused him. He put that look on her face.

“Flynn.” She pursed her lips, exhaling softly, the sound shaky. “What in the world was that?”

He smiled. She was a bundle of nerves, his publicist.  Always running around, a little manic, a lot frantic, riding his ass to do this, do that. She’d been harder on Hamilton, but that crazy guy needed someone to rein him in most of the time.

“I thought it was a kiss? Unless I’m doing it wrong…” A chuckle escaped him, and he hoped she was in on the joke.

“No. You were definitely not doing it wrong.” She blew out a trembling breath, her gaze cautious. “I just want to make sure we’re both on the same page.”

“Well, I’m pretty sure we’re on the same page.” Leaning in, he nuzzled her cheek with his, kissing a soft path along her fragrant skin until his mouth was on hers once more. “A shame you didn’t recognize it.”

She smiled against his lips, her fingers tightening in his hair. “I just thought…”

“Thinking gets you nowhere,” he whispered just before he took the kiss deeper, his tongue thrusting, his mouth devouring. She was a thinker, which meant she set her brain to smoking more often than not. And he wanted her feeling, not thinking or worrying.

He gripped her hips with both hands and pulled her in, wanting her as close as he could get her. This…thing between them had been brewing for a while, torturing him. She’d been by his side almost constantly the past few months, guiding his career, carefully preserving his image.

Every time he was with her, the scent of her hair drove him wild. The way he caught her looking at him, her gaze hungry, her lips damp, echoed an answering call deep within him.

Bring on the Heat by Katie Rose (Guest post, spotlight and GIVEAWAY) (Tasty Book Tours)

It is my pleasure to have a guest post from author Katie Rose.

BRING ON THE HEAT

People sometimes wonder where we get inspiration for stories. Usually it’s hard to pinpoint the exact thing that sparked an idea. I usually have to think backwards after the story has been written to try and remember what the original inspiration was.

My first historical, Twilight Ecstasy (note from ELF, this is under her Colleen Quinn name), was inspired by an old village located in the Wharton State Forest of New Jersey. If you’ve never been to the pinelands, it is well worth the trip. You would never know you were New Jersey when surrounded by miles of silent forests, rushing rivers, and sapphire lakes. Batsto mansion is a restored manor house built by the owners of the surrounding Ironworks. The site dates back to the Revolutionary war, and is now a protected site owned by the state. The mansion is huge, 32 rooms and a tower overlooking Batsto Lake. It’s one of those places where you see ghosts everywhere, haunting the mansion, working in the restored village, or carrying grain from the Gristmill.

I was a huge fan of Kathleen Woodiwiss, author of The Flame and the Flower. I was also a Sherlock Holmes devotee, thanks to my best friend who started passing me the books in Catholic school when we were supposed to be reading English 101. The Hound of the Baskervilles (Illustrated) was one of my favorite stories. Walking through the trails, taking pictures of the house and the property, I could see my heroine arriving at this secluded place as an Irish immigrant, frightened by the strange goings on in the woods while fascinated by her attraction to her handsome employer. It was a lot of fun to combine my favorite elements of mystery and romance while indulging in history of this beautiful place.

Other stories came from different places. I saw an old movie where Barbara Stanwyck set up Henry Fonda as a mark so her father could take advantage of him in a poker game. Of course she fell in love with him, which messed up everything. Henry Fonda was presumed to be wealthy, and it occurred to me it might be funny if it turned out he wasn’t really rich. That was the inspiration for Unveiled (note from ELF, also under the Colleen Quinn moniker), a historical based on the premise: what happens if two people marry for money, and neither one has any?

Bring on the Heat: The Boys of Summer is my first contemporary romance. The inspiration came from watching a baseball game in the sweltering August heat. I had grown to love the sport thanks to my daughter, who patiently taught me all of the nomenclature and how the game worked. But my mind wandered as I admired the strikingly handsome pitcher, and wondered what would happen if he met a girl he assumed was an heiress, but was actually the girl next door? Could he get past his expectations of marrying someone who was a model or an actress, once he realized he was in love with an ordinary woman?

I had a great time writing Bring on the Heat: The Boys of Summer! The baseball venue is loads of fun, and you get to work with a whole team of hot guys! Life doesn’t get much better.
