Chasing the Other Tisdale
by Jessica Jefferson
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
She’s the other sister…
Overshadowed by the beauty of her older sister, Lillian is better known as the other Tisdale; unremarkable and unsure how she will ever deliver on the promise of her family's name.
He’s a rake in need of reforming…
Will Colton leads a frivolous existence, embracing notoriety instead of managing his family’s fortune. Determined to forget his financial burden and his father’s growing resentment, he maintains a lifestyle dedicated to pleasure and self-indulgence. When Will is invited to the Tisdale estate for an extended holiday, he never expects to become friends with the forgettable Lillian. But when a family secret comes to light, he must choose between leaving London and protecting the honor of one woman or staying and risking the reputation of another.
Upon his return, Will finds the girl he left behind has come out of the shadows and into her own. Lillian’s finally the center of attention, and not all of it good. With his own reputation in tatters, can a reformed rake lure her out of the hands of London's bachelors and back into his own arms? Can he escape his past and reclaim her heart, or has he lost her forever?
Exclusive excerpt
Lilly swallowed, her throat thick with mortification.
He tossed his waistcoat atop the jacket, leaving nothing but his shirt separating her from the sight of his naked chest.
Then there was nothing at all.
She sat, rendered defenseless on the grass, staring at the rippled muscle of Mr. Colton’s torso. She’d only ever seen the male form in books, books that she didn’t dare read, only ever allowing herself brief glances at the pictures.
Too brief, she supposed.
Lilly certainly never imagined a man’s chest in real life would be so…
Hard.
He kneeled down in front of her and went to work, the shirt’s lawn easily shredding into strips. With every movement, the muscles in his arms and chest flexed and tightened, ruthlessly stealing her attention away from the pain.
Granted, she felt throbbing, but it was in an entirely different location than her poor shoulder and ankle.
“Here,” he said, wrapping the first strip around her neck. His knuckles brushed against her chest as he pulled the strip under her arm, searing the flesh under her gown.
“I suppose I’m being a child about this.” She started talking, nervously. She’d always been one of those that filled the void of silence with awkward chatter. “Now, my younger sister, Tamsin—she’s forever falling out of trees and breaking things. Yet she’s always been quite stoic about it. It’s a bit shaming that my younger sister can tolerate such pain much better than I.”
He shook his head. “There’s no shame about it. If I were in your shoes I’d be wailing like a newborn babe.” Mr. Colton looked at her, his blue eyes lively.
Lilly chuckled. “Oh, I’m sure that’s not true.”
He took another strip and tied it around her waist. “You, my dear, have never seen me in pain. I have no tolerance for it whatsoever. I’m a complete milksop, I positively howl at hangnails. If you don’t believe me, ask my housekeeper, Mrs. Bankert. She’s been privy to many an embarrassing display of unmanliness. She still doesn’t let me forget it.”
He was teasing her. Mr. Colton was as masculine as they came, reeking of virility and sensuality. But she appreciated his self-deprecating effort to convince her otherwise.
