Contests, giveaways, and whatnot! (updated 9/18/17)

Whew!  It's been a hectic couple of weeks and I have to wonder whether I am coming or going, lol, since I have spent WAY too much on the freeways. I can't complain as much because I am blessed to not be in an area affected by the horrendous weather issues (and I send good thoughts to all of those affected) but wow, am I behind on everything!


So...here are a few of the contests and giveaways that I know are going on right now...

Meanwhile, I am frantically trying to catch up with just a little of my reading and have just finished Cassandra Carr's yummy m/m erotic romance, See the Light, the prolific and imaginative Cheyenne McCray/Jaymie Holland's re-release of the first book in the 'Seraphine Chronicles', Forbidden, and am FINALLY writing up reviews for the mesmerizing dark erotic story Selling Out by the talented Amber Lin and Shona Husk's intriguing science fiction novella, Lunar Exposure, not to mention Anya Bast's interesting novella Winter's Pleasures:  The Training.  (hopefully, Tammie at Night Owl Reviews won't notice how overdue some of my submissions are, lol)



                                      

Spring has sprung

And, unfortunately, it is definitely allergy season.  I don't suffer as much as my poor hubby who has gone through years of allergy shots and, although much improved, is really having trouble when he goes outside this year. 

I am thrilled because the poppies are already in bloom (we live in the city that celebrates the California state flower and we are near the Antelope Valley Calfornia Poppy Reserve), my iris are growing stems and should bloom in a few weeks and many things are turning green.  I am less thrilled because the aphids, caterpillars and other garden pests are also thriving and I was pretty disturbed to discover all of them flourishing when I attempted to pick collard greens to cook for my great-aunt yesterday.  I am fortunate that at 95 years of age, she has very simplistic tastes and all she asks is that I cook them with a little onion and garlic.  Even I can manage that...although I did forget to look at the time because I was reading one of my editing manuscripts so I had to keep poking the greens to assess their tenderness. 

My great-aunt, Pilar, is a very fascinating person who is still very coherent and was still using public transportation as recently as a year ago.  It is amazing to talk with her and hear about her travails when she and others were imprisoned in a concentration camp in the Philippines.  Thankfully, she was eventually freed and brought to the United States where she raised a wonderful family and has enriched many lives with her stories and her pragmatic advice.  And yum, the lumpia (Filipino eggroll) that I blogged about a few months ago, was made with her very expert assistance...I am in the process of coaxing her to repeat the experience, lol.

Aloha and Mahalo Kim, Pamela Clare!... and a couple of contests (updated 7/21)

Aloha Kim (and her fans).  I was really touched to be interviewed for your blogpost today (link) and I really appreciate all that you have done to introduce me to so many wonderful authors, especially since I was being such a wallflower at the Romantic Times readers conference when it came to Los Angeles.  I am looking forward to seeing you again at RWA in Anaheim even though we communicate relatively regularly.

I have started attending chats...both Night Owl Reviews (link) and Writerspace (link) and have had the chance to interact with some fascinating characters (ahem, I mean authors, lol).   Sometimes the most fun happens after the chat is over...e.g. I attended the Writerspace chat last night (sitting in a McDonald's parking lot, of all places----but I did buy something from them so I wouldn't feel guilty, lol)....and it wasn't until the chat was over that Pamela Clare appeared!  She was very gracious and spoke with the few diehards that were still hanging out (yum, there will be at least another I-team* and two or more MacKinnon's Rangers books!).  I eventually packed up my tent and left since it was raining but she was still chatting when I tiptoed away.  I love her I-team books and some of her scenes are written from personal experience since I read once that she indeed had an accident on the mountain and knows the pain of dealing with broken bones and trying to reach assistance.
