by CiCi Cordelia
ADULT title

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Paranormal
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

An ancient legend spanning eras, continents, and worlds. To some, it’s nothing more than a dream. To others, a pretty fairy tale handed down through the generations.

For those in critical need of their own happy ending, a gift.

For sheltered Lily Kiers, it’s all too real. Her escape from danger, straight into the arms of her destiny.

Thrust into a realm made of fantasy and unbridled passion, Lily faces violent resentment and jealousy from extremely powerful enemies. Amidst fierce creatures whose very existence defy all common sense, Lily pieces together a past she could never have imagined.

EXCERPT

“I won’t hurt you.” The dragon’s powerful voice held a soothing quality. Then it ruined the moment by leaning down to sniff her. “Mmm. You smell like apples and honey.” To her amazement, that long, forked tongue re-emerged and flicked gently along her neck. Its texture felt incongruously like velvet.

Lily managed to bite back a hysterical shriek even as her lower lip trembled. She clamped it between her teeth to steady it, before venturing, “A-Are you going to eat me?”

Every muscle and bone in her body hurt. Her world had upended itself. Beyond exhausted, she longed for this nightmare to end.

If a dragon could frown, then this dragon was definitely frowning. Its fierce expression sent additional shudders through her, and she fully expected those massive jaws to come for her at any moment.

As hard as she struggled for calm, tears leaked from her eyes when he raised long, sharp claws and reached for her. Too frightened to move, she turned her head away. The thrumming of her heart pounded through her entire body as she waited for the sharp talons to slash into her. Instead, the dragon carefully nudged her cheek until she was forced to raise her face and meet its magnetic stare.

“I said I wouldn’t hurt you.” Then slowly and gently the creature unfurled its tail, the very tip pressing against her lower back as if encouraging her to gain her feet, and held her steady until she was standing securely on the ground.

Before Lily had a chance to run, there was a bright flash of light, then a shimmering of brilliant colors. Her jaw slackened at the sight of a man standing before her.

An extremely handsome, naked man.

My review:
3.75 out of 5 stars

Realm of the Dragon by CiCi Cordelia (the writing team of Char Chaffen and Cheryl Yeko relays the journey of Lily Kiers whose flight from danger leads her on an adventure far beyond her wildest imaginings. Sexy Kordlith (Kord) of the Battle Draconian can’t believe it when his mate literally drops in on him, but he’s never been shy about going after he wants…and he and his dragon want Lily to be their mate. Now they just have to convince her, and overcome her objections as well as vanquish the danger that continues to threaten her.

This paranormal romance tale is the first book in the ‘Soul Mate Tree’ series, and introduces a fantastical world peopled by wondrous creatures. I love dragon stories and this is a fun twist on the concept of dragon shapeshifters and showcases a fascinating spectrum of creatures. There are nice surprises gradually revealed that help propel the mystery and several yummy alpha males introduced, as well as the females who capture their devotion. The contrast between the mystical and magical beings and events and the pragmatic and idiomatic statements that are sprinkled in the story provides a great element of humor that balances the sizzling heat that flourishes between the paired couples. Some of the story is a little rushed for me and I would liked to have gotten more depth to most of the characters, but I think this is a nice introduction to the series and I hope there are more tales involving these beings.

Excerpt

The hunter becomes the prey, a prisoner to his own desire . . .
It was early. Faint daylight crept in through cracks in the curtains, but the room was still quite dark.
Turow couldn’t move. Couldn’t manage more than a quiet moan. His body wouldn’t respond, his mind refusing to engage. A huge weight of sated bliss layered over him, making simple actions impossible. Every breath he took reminded him why.
The covers tossed over his naked body held her unique smell. His tongue still tasted her. But it was what he didn’t feel that finally goaded him into awareness.
Her heat didn’t rest beside him. In fact, the sheet was cold.
Empty.
He tried to sit up but something jerked him down. That something a metal bracelet about his wrist, shackling him to the bed frame. His hazy mind recoiled in surprise. How could she have gotten to the key where it lay a room away in the pocket of his coat?
Alert and now wary, Turow let his senses sharpen before opening his eyes to a sight that scarred him, heart and soul.
Sylvia stood on the other side of their shabby room, dressed in her castoff clothes, her lovely, kiss-bruised lips narrowed, her expression carefully masked. She met his gaze directly, hers betraying nothing.
Because they were not alone.
“The Terriot Princes . . . Holy Hotness. There is so much deliciousness between all them it’s hard not to drool!” – Sara Kate, Goodreads

BLURB

When war hero Michael Jarvis returns to his home town on the shores of Lake Superior, he doesn’t plan to stay—he’s undercover, investigating a possible sex trafficking ring operating on the Great Lakes. But he does want to sample the pesky girl next door he always turned down—and it wouldn’t hurt if she’d clear up a few mysteries of her own along the way. Successfully established as an interior house painter, Brenda Tower finally has her act together as a single mom—but it hangs by a thread, a secret she’ll guard with her life. The return of her youthful crush Michael Jarvis threatens to unravel everything. Jealousy has inflamed Brett Hill’s hatred of Michael and Brenda for as long as he can remember. Revenge will be so sweet—and it will fit in perfectly with his high stakes game. When the secrets break open, can Michael and Brenda find the courage to trust each other, or will revenge and betrayal triumph?

EXCERPT

Brenda bent over to pick up her sprayer, and Michael had everything he could do not to reach out and clamp his hands around her tight butt. She’d tempted him so many times, but he didn’t think she was intentionally provoking him this time. Yet she was in his blood. There was no way to tell her she was one of the reasons he’d accepted the Ashland assignment. It was memories of her that had kept him going, that had kept him alive in Iraq and Afghanistan. He placed a hand on her shoulder and gently turned her to face him. She didn’t resist. He watched her chew on her lower lip. So she wasn’t much calmer about their initial meeting than he’d been. “We’re going to have to talk about your boy.” Her shoulders slumped. He kept himself in check. It would’ve been so easy to gather her in his arms and make that tremble go away.

MORE ABOUT OUR COVER

We loved working with Syneca Featherstone of Original Syn designs (and what an original title for her business!) One shot, over and out – she nailed our concept, our characters and their hot moment in her first try. We hope we can work with her again and are so glad she’s now in the eXtasy Books stable of cover artists! Here’s what she had to say about putting this cover together: “When I read the cover request I remember thinking how important it was to find an image of a couple with obvious chemistry and with luck, appeared to have real emotion. I was starting to despair that I was not going to find what I wanted and then tada!! It went so well with the background I selected and gave the overall feel of the location and the couple. I was on pins and needles waiting to hear back from Adriana. When she approved the cover I did my little happy dance (no worries, it was in the privacy of my office so no children or fuzzy animals were scarred for life because they saw it). I hope I get the chance to work with Adriana again and hope this book sells a MILLION!!” Us, too!   Subscribe to our Newsletter for sneak peeks, extra excerpts, and more about how we came to write this book!

Eye Candy by Pauline Allan (VBT, excerpt, and GIVEAWAY) GFT ADULT title

Eye Candy

by Pauline Allan
ADULT title

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: LGBTQ (MM Romance)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Gavin Rossi is one sexy piece of Eye Candy wrapped in a tight body and sweet smile. The hot breath on his neck, the mesmerizing rhythm as he rolls his hips, the strong chest rising and falling beneath his hands make for a distraction he’s terrified to see play out.

When Dutch Williamson feels a set of perfectly sculpted thighs slipping over his lap, the last thing his liquor-hazed brain registers is this is my future. The tempting piece of Eye Candy grinding on his lap is going to cut him at the knees, and he knows it.

This is a dance. This is a tease. God, this is so much more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
The thought of going back to the crowded apartment after his shift made Mr. Stranger that much more important. Every customer counted as one step closer to being on his own. Granted, sharing a room with three guys didn’t compare to living on the streets, but dreams could change. Life meant more than a warm bed now.
The song switched. A new rhythm pulsed through the air, and they all bobbed their heads to the hypnotic vibe. Knowing the rhythm by heart, he stuffed the dark memories in his life into the hole where he’d pushed all the other messed-up experiences and focused on the gentleman’s wide-eyed expression.
Had his sexy new customer noticed the thickness behind his stretched white shorts? The way those eyes widened gave away the secret. Ah, two bets to one, the swelling behind that zipper had nothing to do with a balled-up sock.
Tingles sparked down his thighs when his toes finally tapped the rough tips of a pair of black boots. “Can I dance for you?”
Watching the man’s Adam’s apple bob before he nodded lent all the confidence anyone would ever need. Gavin filled his lungs and parted his knees, planted them on either side of Mr. Stranger’s lap, and gripped the back of the couch. Unruly silky waves tickled his cheek when he leaned forward.
“I can touch you, but you can’t touch me. Don’t grab my butt. Okay?” Jesus, he never wanted that to happen again.
Mr. Stranger cleared his throat. The guttural sound massaged the side of Gavin’s cheek, forcing him to dig his knees into the cushions.
“Got it.”
Book is $0.99 at Amazon for a limited time
Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay (review)
Children of Earth and Sky
by Guy Gavriel Kay
Blurb:  From the small coastal town of Senjan, notorious for its pirates, a young woman sets out to find vengeance for her lost family. That same spring, from the wealthy city-state of Seressa, famous for its canals and lagoon, come two very different people: a young artist traveling to the dangerous east to paint the grand khalif at his request—and possibly to do more—and a fiercely intelligent, angry woman, posing as a doctor’s wife, but sent by Seressa as a spy.
The trading ship that carries them is commanded by the accomplished younger son of a merchant family, ambivalent about the life he’s been born to live. And farther east a boy trains to become a soldier in the elite infantry of the khalif—to win glory in the war everyone knows is coming.
As these lives entwine, their fates—and those of many others—will hang in the balance, when the khalif sends out his massive army to take the great fortress that is the gateway to the western world...
*************************
My review:
5 out of 5 stars
Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay follows a disparate group of people who become ensnared in the machinations of the rulers of their various sections of the world. A young girl who is driven by her thirst for vengeance, a woman who has been sequestered by her family in disgrace, an artist searching for fame and fortune, the younger son of a prominent merchant family, and several others, all discover that attempts to make them instruments in a power struggle have unexpected costs and benefits that will either elevate them beyond their wildest dreams or cut their lives short, depending on their choices.
This epic fantasy tale is one of those books I am really reluctant to pick up because I know it’s going to take some effort to work my way through it. The sheer cast of characters is always daunting to me, because I have to learn how they are connected, and then throw in all of the political maneuverings and history between the different factions, and my head starts feeling overcrowded. In other words, I know it’s going to be a challenge. But wow, it’s worth it.
I’ve read other series by this talented wordsmith and I am always mesmerized by the delicate threads that are laid down encompassing action in geographically separate areas that nonetheless start coalescing into a wondrous tapestry with characters that become so real that I start rooting for them and mourning them when they are struck down. The vivid scenarios and harsh lifestyles that are depicted in this story aptly reflect the historical cultures that underlie some of the events in this tale. One should be warned that there is a fair amount of violence that accompanies the various struggles, but there are also inspiring tales of courage and feats that show the strength, mental and physical, of the players in this giant chess game of dominance and commerce.
I adore strong female characters and enjoyed the various maneuvers and feats that several of the women excelled at, even as I ached at the crucibles that they underwent. The third person omniscient voice allows the reader to get insight that would otherwise be cumbersome to attain, and the tinge of mysticism combined with the battles both in the field and closer to home keep one enthralled. This was another fantastic tale that kept me ensnared for far too long but it was well worth the lost sleep. I am pleased that many of the characters’ journeys are told to completion and although I was sad that the book finally came to an end, I was also satisfied when I was finished. An excellent addition to the genre.
A copy of this title was provided to me for review, a version of which was submitted to Night Owl Reviews.
Becoming Dragon by Eve Langlais (VBT, guest post, excerpt, and GIVEAWAY) GFT ADULT
It is my pleasure to share a guest post from author Eve Langlais, who gives us...
My take on critique groups
by Eve Langlais
First and foremost, authors and readers alike need to remember everyone’s taste is different. What works for one reader, what truly elevates a story for them will be something another reader will hate. I was too shy when I first started writing to let anyone see my stories before publishing. But I made an exception with
Bunny and the Bear, I sent it to one of my avid readers to see what she thought. She hated it. Thought it was silly. And it was, that was the whole point of the story and to this day is still one of my most popular titles. Another example is Naomi. Some readers truly disliked the heroine in Delicate Freakn’ Flower, while others absolutely adored her ballsy attitude. Always remember, taste is subjective. We all have things we like and hate. With that in mind, I don’t use a critique group. I have a ‘writing voice’ and I trust it to be able to give me what works. My stories might not always follow trends. It might not have a heroine or hero, everyone can love, but for every person that doesn’t feel a connection, there will be a reader with whom it resonates. And whatever that story is—even if it involves shapeshifters or aliens or cyborgs--it will work for that couple because the book is about their meeting and journey to a happily ever after. This isn’t to say critique groups aren’t useful. To some people, they are an invaluable fount of feedback, it’s just not for me.
Becoming Dragon
by Eve Langlais
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Can he embrace the beast within?
I’m a monster. That’s what Brandon thinks when he flees the medical institute that changed him. Living a normal life isn’t in the cards for him because, while he can hide his scaly skin, his wings are hard to miss. So he runs and lives in the shadows where monsters belong. What he didn’t expect to find were others just like him, and they call themselves dragons. Or so Aimi with the violet eyes tells him when she pins him to the ground.
Seriously, though, dragons?
He doesn’t want to believe, but the evidence is mounting. Not helping his resolve is the fact that the woman with the silver hair doesn’t fear the monster and wants to claim him.
However, before he can think of his own happiness, he has to rescue his little sister. Uncle Theo kidnapped her, and Brandon will do anything to get her back, even if he must embrace the monster within to become the dragon.
EXCERPT
“What do you mean, what am I?” Her brow crinkled. “I am the same thing you are.” Her shoulders drew back, her head tilted imperially, and for a moment, shadowy wings glistened silver at her back. “We are dragon.”
At her serious claim, he gaped then snorted before he outright laughed.
“Why are you giggling?” She seemed perturbed at his reaction.
“Men don’t giggle. We guffaw. And I’m guffawing because that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard. I’m no dragon. I’m nothing anymore but a fucking mess.” Bitter words for a bitter fate.
