Under Fire

Under Fire

by Catherine Mann is part of her ‘Elite Force:  That Others May Live’ series that includes  Cover Me and Hot Zone.  This is another action-filled roller coaster ride of a read.  The author deftly describes the enormous sacrifices given selflessly by the heroes who work tirelessly to defend and protect our freedom.  The poignant tale of Brandon Harris is deftly interwoven with the mystery that ensnares dog trainer Rachel Flores in a frightening situation where attempts to go through proper channels only seem to ratchet up the danger.  The charismatic Liam McCabe is a proven hero yet still has his own self-doubts and problems maintaining a stable relationship.  The interaction between Liam and Rachel is intriguing and believable and I enjoy it even more because she is essentially a self-reliant hero in her own right who has enough sense to reach out for help when she needs it.  The hair-raising and mind-boggling scenes described are a testament to the research that the author has performed to adequately describe the amazing bearers of the 'green footprints'.  Naturally, I have a soft spot for all of the dogs in the story and special admiration for those who perform the lifesaving and strenuous activities involved in Search and Rescue.  My Amazon review is at this link under ELF2060 and a 'yes, this was helpful' vote is always greatly appreciated.

If you haven't already read them, start the series with Cover Me as you get to know these fascinating heroes, continue with Hot Zone and then you'll be ready for Under Fire.

Those of you with e-readers may be interested in the bundled special...

(And who can resist those covers, hmm?)
