Escaping Reality
Blurb:
His touch spirals through me, warm and sweet, wicked and hot. I shouldn’t trust him. I shouldn’t tell him my secrets. But how do I not when he is the reason I breathe? He is what I need.
At the young age of eighteen, tragedy and a dark secret force Lara to flee all she has known and loved to start a new life. Now years later, with a new identity as Amy, she’s finally dared to believe she is forgotten—even if she cannot forget. But just when she lets her guard down, the ghosts of her past are quick to punish her, forcing her back on the run.
On a plane, struggling to face the devastation of losing everything again and starting over, Amy meets Liam Stone, a darkly entrancing recluse billionaire, who is also a brilliant, and famous, prodigy architect. A man who knows what he wants and goes after it. And what he wants is Amy. Refusing to take “no” as an answer, he sweeps her into a passionate affair, pushing her to her erotic limits. He wants to possess her. He makes her want to be possessed. Liam demands everything from her, accepting nothing less. But what if she is too devastated by tragedy to know when he wants more than she should give?
My review:
4 1/2 stars
Escaping Reality by Lisa Renee Jones is the first story in the ‘Secret Life of Amy Bensen’ series, an enthralling romantic suspense tale. Amy is jarred out of her semi-complacency and flees for her life but never expects to come to the attention of a forceful man named Liam Stone, a billionaire who seems to determined to become part of her life, despite her misgivings. Liam doesn’t understand what puts the fear in the sexy woman’s eyes but he is determined to fight her demons, despite her opposition. Amy longs to succumb to the seductive charms of the sometimes tormented man who wants to smother her with his attentions but fears to risk his life or destroy their growing bond with the truth about her past. She will have to find out who she can trust but the discovery may destroy any hard-earned faith that she has achieved and she may not live long enough to achieve her goals.
This enjoyable new adult romance narrative provides a mystery that intensifies as the story unfolds. The dynamic between the mysterious Amy and the obscenely rich and sexy Liam who wants to take control of her happiness seesaws between them as external elements constantly change the nature of their interactions. The secrets that each harbors causes a sometimes unhealthy relationship as they work out what they each feel most comfortable with. There are many unexplained occurrences that are alluded to but unfortunately, no true resolution by the end of the story which ends in a somewhat unexpected twist. I enjoyed the imagery presented by this talented author as exemplified by the following passage: “...we are a rainbow of the same colors, none of them bright or beautiful. We are the many shades of gray and black, hoping to find a glimmer of light in each other, not more darkness.” There are many shades of gray in this tale and one hopes that with the sequel, there will be a glimmer of light that will dispel the darkness. A mesmerizing read.

let me be more clear.” His cheek slides over mine, his whiskers
scraping erotically over my delicate skin, his lips pressing to my ear.
“You’re a beautiful woman who deserves to be properly fucked, which I
conclude from both your actions and answers to my questions, that you
have not been. I want to be the man to remedy that. I want it very
much.”
