Two children's books with Christmas themes

I had the wonderful opportunity to read and review two excellent children's books recently.

“Brownie Groundhog and the Wintry Surprise” is a children’s story by Susan Blackaby that is charmingly illustrated by award winning artist Carmen Segovia.  This clever sequel to “Brownie Groundhog and the February Fox” continues to explore the friendship that was formed and demonstrates the different approaches to the cold weather of winter.  Poor Brownine thinks that she is going to hibernate but the fox has other ideas and their new friend, Bunny, is drawn into the fox’s plans.

This slightly oversized and enchanting book is filled with beautiful artwork and a delightful story that shows how friends can have entirely different ideas of what should happen yet compromise and achieve lovely results.  The garbled words that come out of sleepy Brownie Groundhog’s mouth are interpreted in two different ways by her friends but fortunately, the end result is still fun.  A book with wonderful and striking illustrations best shared by someone who can read it for a younger audience.

“Christmas Eve With Mrs. Claus” by M.P. Hueston is a children’s book beautifully illustrated by Teri Weidner that reminds us of all of the things that Mrs. Claus does to get ready for Christmas while Santa is making all of his important deliveries.  Fortunately, she has plenty of helpers to assist in cleaning and making all of the delicious goodies.

This delightful children’s book has lovely thick pages to accommodate the cute little doors with hidden illustrations.  I loved the fact that animals were used for all of the characters and the beautiful drawings are vibrant and whimsical.  Like Santa, I like chocolate chips so I was delighted to find them hiding behind one of the doors!  I think that children of all ages will enjoy playing with the various pages in this book that effortlessly conjures up the warm and generous feelings of the season.

    1. They are both very cute books! I love interactive books so I had fun opening all of the little 'doors' in the one book and the other picture has very striking pictures.
